Freshman Lotan Jimenez made one at-bat appearance in Brownfield baseball’s 14-3 win over Muleshoe. He hit the ball to right field bringing in the two runners on second and first, thus ending the game on the University Interscholastic League 10-run rule. The walk-off also snapped the Cubs’ three-game losing streak in District 3-3A.

The Lady Cubs defeated Muleshoe 10-0 in five innings due to the University Interscholastic League 10-run rule. With the win, the Lady Cubs extend their winning streak to four games and continue to challenge Lamesa for the District 3-3A championship. The game was Brownfield’s Senior Night. The Lady Cubs will be on the road visiting Lamesa on Tuesday and will close their district Saturday at Dimmitt.

The two-day tournament began on Monday, April 12, and finished on Tuesday, April 13 with the Cubs and Lady Cubs sweeping all the titles. Brownfield not only won the boys’ and girls’ single and doubles as well as the mixed pairs, but won the overall Class 3A district championship with 125 points.

The Cubs went into the game having lost the last two games and looking to find its offense, having scored only three runs in their previous game. The Wildcats rode their home advantage and jumped on the Cubs pitching to hand Brownfield a 16-4 loss in five innings.

The Lady Cubs came into the game having scored 42 runs in their last two games, but could not replicate the same type of offense and played seven innings since losing to Lamesa. After coming from behind, the Lady Cubs pulled off an 8-5 win to improve to 6-1 in district. With three games remaining in district, Brownfield will host Muleshoe on Saturday, travel to Lamesa on Tuesday, and finish district on the road against Dimmitt on Saturday, April 24.
