After playing badly against and losing to Lamesa last week, the Brownfield softball team bounced back with a 21-2 win against Dimmitt. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Dimmitt but was changed and turned into a home game for the Lady Cubs, and after a slow start in the top of the first, the game turned completely in favor of the home team.
Read moreThe Brownfield baseball team hosted Lamesa in its district home opener on Friday, April 2 in what was a bizarre situation. The Cubs found themselves trailing 13-3 at the bottom of the seventh inning and staged an exciting comeback that tied the game at 13-13. Lamesa went on to score six runs in the top of the eighth to hand the Cubs a 19-13 loss.

Read moreDENVER CITY – The two day district meet on Thursday, April 1 and Saturday, April 3 saw the Brownfield track and field team face off against its District 3-3A opponents for a spot in the area round. On Thursday the Lady Cubs and Cubs runners faced off in the preliminary rounds to qualify for the medal round on Saturday. For the athletes competing in the field events they won their medals on Thursday.

Boys singles had Ivan DeLeon of Brownfield defeating Emiliano Solis-Zavala of Brownfield in the championship match, 7-6, 2-6, 10-4. Girls singles had Colbie Lyons of Brownfield winning over Alyssa Vidaurre of Brownfield in the consolation championship 6-3, 6-2. Mixed doubles saw Ruben Juarez and Rylee Richolson of Brownfield defeating Denver City in the championship final 7-6, 3-6, 10- 4. Kayden McPherson and Vianny Hernandez won over Denver City for third place 6-3, 6-3. Ashton Burns and Evelyn Wondrack defeated Shallowater 6-0, 6-2 for the consolation championship.

After jumping out to an early lead the Lady Cubs showed their poise in staying calm when a team battles and forces them to play seven innings. Brownfield defeated the Lady Mules 11-3 and improved to 3-0 in District 3-3A. Up next the Lady Cubs host Lamesa in a battle for first place with the game set to start Saturday at noon.

The Cubs preseason has been spent away from the friendly confines of their home field, and it showed as they jumped out early on the Mules in an 11-1 fifth inning win. The Cubs will play their district home opener on Friday against Lamesa at noon.

The Cubs have nine senior players and three senior managers and all 12 were honored with their number and position on the field. The Cubs began their season on Tuesday, March 30 on the road against Muleshoe and will play at home on Friday, April 2 against Lamesa at noon.
