Wildcats take win over Meadow Broncos in district opener

After a District shootout in Meadow Friday night, the Wellman-Union Wildcats emerged victorious. The Wildcats took the 64-52 win over the home town Meadow Broncos. The Wildcats were first to score in the game, going up by 16 at the end of the first quarter. The Broncos, after a scoreless first quarter, were able to begin their attack early in the second. The Broncos came away with 8 points after a quick second quarter score but had a tough time defensively, in containing the Wildcats. Wellman Union’s Carson Sessums was quick to answer back with a score of his own, adding to the Wildcat lead. The Wildcats continued to hack away at the Bronco defense. The score being 42-16 at the end of the first half, with Meadow’s Caleb Sanchez putting up the Broncos second score of the first half. After halftime, the Broncos returned to the field with a new found momentum. Things began to click offensively for the Broncos, as they continued to put points on the board in the third and forth quarters. Unfortunately for the Broncos, despite their attack, the Wildcats continued to have their way with the Broncos defense. The Broncos outscored the Wildcats 36-22 in the final two quarters but the damage from the previous two had already been done. The Wildcats took the District win and are now 1-0. The Wildcats will host Whiteface at home next Friday. The Meadow Broncos who are now 0-1 in District will look to host Borden County in Meadow next Friday.
