Richard Gonzales The Brownfield Lady Cubs squared off against the New Home Lady Leopards and fell short in the matchup losing 69-44. The New Home Lady Leopards came into this matchup ranked #1 in the state of Texas for class 2A and showcased why Tuesday night. To start the game New Home would go on a 8-2 run to start the game when Brownfield would use a timeout. Out of the time out Amery Pauda would hit a much needed three to keep the Lady Cubs within striking distance.

It was a slow start to the game for both teams as neither team could get a shot to fall, or they would turn the ball over early in a possession. But with 5:45 left in the New Home would get on the board first. But Brownfield would not let things come easy for New Home as they utilized their press to force turnovers and wreaked havoc in the halfcourt not letting New Home getting into their sets, Brownfield outscored New Home 13-4 at the end of the first quarter.

On Monday they played Lubbock Christian High School who’s ranked #2 in the state of Texas for TAPPS and coming off their second State Championship in as many years, Brownfield fell to Lubbock Christian 46-35. On Tuesday Brownfield returned to action as they took on the 4A Monahans Lady Loboes who they defeated 59-30 and that win would secure the first of the season for the Brownfield Lady Cubs. Coach Wyatts bunch has had some early struggles through four games with almost an entirely new team, but they have also gone against stiff competition early. Opening the season against #12 Levelland, #7 Farwell, and most recently #2 LCHS and Monahans.

Read moreThe Wildcats beat the Sands Mustangs in the West Texas Youth Football League Championship on Saturday in Wellman. The Wildcats defeated the Mustangs by a score of 34-15. Waylon Worley was selected by the Sands Radio Network as the game’s offensive MVP for his performance. He was said to have “done it all”, leading the team in scoring, and helping the Wildcats win the Championship game. The 8-0 Wildcats team is coached by Jerry Worley, Barrett Brown, Joshua O’Briant and Kelton Coleman.
