The Brownfield Cubs took care of business Friday night as they went on the road and pitched a shutout defeating the Kermit Yellowjackets 34-0. The first quarter went by in a breeze with Kermit possessing the ball for most of the quarter. Brownfield was able to get a stop on fourth down and had the ball on their own 49-yard line and on the first play of the drive J.J Martinez connected with Quavience Busby for a 51- yard touchdown the point after would be good and Brownfield led 7-0 with 9:08 left in the 2nd quarter. Both teams would go back and forth in the quarter, and finally with 3:17 left in the half Brownfield found the endzone again, this time on the ground with a 15-yard rush from Gage McPherson the PAT would be no good after a bad snap making the score 13-0. Kermit followed with a good drive of their own looking to score before the half but was put to a halt when Jayden Gonzales came up with an interception and the Cubs would take a 13-0 lead into the locker room. It didn’t take long for Brownfield to put more points on the board in the 3rd quarter with 7:55 left Martinez found Kaydyn Moore for a 33-yard touchdown the Cubs would go for two but fail making the score 19-0. Kermit threatened to score once again but Brownfield forced another turnover on downs with 3:55 left in the 3rd quarter. The Cubs would then go on a long drive and with five seconds left in the 3rd Martinez and Moore connected again for a 3-yard touchdown they would go on to convert a two point try and the score was then 27-0. Just when Kermit was looking like they may get a score on the board a couple of bad snaps sent them back deep in their own territory and on 3rd down another bad snap occurred and Tristan Martinez recovered it and the Brownfield offense was back in business, and they would cash in on the opportunity when Martinez found Adriano Mireles for a 20-yard touchdown, scoring the extra point secured the final score 34-0. Kermit had one last drive to try and get some points on the board, but they tested Gonzales again deep and he made Kermit pay again coming up with his second interception of the night and sealing the shutout for the Brownfield Cubs. Brownfield is now 7-2 and 2-1 in district play, they will not be back in action until November 4th where they will take on the Slaton Tigers, during Senior night, in Brownfield.
