Lady Cubs Powerlifting competed at State meet

The Brownfield Lady Cubs power lifters competed at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association 3A Big School State Championship that began on Thursday, March 17th at Corpus Christi. The Lady Cub had four lifters competed and finished in the top 15 of each lifter’s respected weight class. Aubree Valenzuela finished in sixth place, Shem Gurrea came in ninth place, Ruth Lozano came in 12th place, and Zurich Gomez came in 14th place. Head Coach Jacob Perez spoke on how it will help his program to continue to grow.

MyTurn: Time to support Lady Cubs softball and Cubs baseball

The Brownfield Lady Cubs softball team will begin playing for the District 3-3A championship when they host Denver City on Tuesday, March 22, and the Brownfield Cubs begin District 3-3A on Tuesday, March 29th at home against Muleshoe. The Lady Cubs are on track to once challenge for the district title and make a run in the playoff again. The Lady Cubs came close last season losing to Lamesa on the final game in winning the district title and fell to Idalou in the Area Round of the Class 3A playoff in a two game series with both games being decided by a run in extra innings. The Cubs this season are a young squad with talent but are still learning the varsity game. They have moments where they show they can be competitive and fight for one of the four spots win the Class 3A playoff when they have everything rolling.

Brisendine Court Date Set

Brian Brisendine, former Brownfield Bid-Corp Director was arrested for child pornography in January. His court date is now set for April 4, 2022. He has not yet made any decisions regarding a plea. Members of Meadow

Members of Meadow One-Act Play received individual awards on Monday at the Bi-District competition. Bryden Smith was named to the One-Act Play All-Star Crew and Brady Parker was named Honorable Mention All-Star Cast. Members of Wellman-Union One-Act Play also received individual awards. Tobias DePoyster was named All-Star Crew Member, Kamryn Murph and Kayley Cavazos were named Honorable Mention All-Star Cast, and Mandy Rempel was named All-Star Cast.
