Wellman-Union host Wellman Relays

The Wellman-Union boys and girls track and field team hosted the Wellman Relays on Friday, March 25th. The Wildcats and Lady ‘Cats competed against nine schools including district rival Meadow, in track and field events. There were 33 amount events held at the Wellman Relays. Results were not available at the time of this article but will be available with photos on brownfieldonline. com when available and in Thursday’s edition of the Brownfield News.

Lady Cubs shake off slow start in district opener win

The Brownfield Lady Cubs opened District 3-3A with a 10-0 win over Denver City with seven runs scored in the fifth inning. The Lady Cubs had seven batters score runners with three runs scored in the first two innings and seven in the fifth. In the circle, Brianne Franco pitched a complete game with 0 runs on two hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts. Head Coach Loren Phelps spoke on her team’s performance.

Gas prices start to see decline

According to GasBuddy’s latest survey of gas prices,”the national average gas price in the U.S. has begun to decline since its peak of $4.35 per gallon, set on March 10, but prices on the West Coast, and specifically California, have continued to soar.” Prices in Texas have been mirror that of the national average, and have started to decline. However, “Los Angeles, today(March 22, 2022) , became the first major city in the U.S. to reach an average gas price of $6 or more.” “In less than three weeks, the average price of gasoline in Los Angeles has surged by an average of $1 per gallon, blowing past $5 and now reaching $6 per gallon on refinery issues and Russia’s war on Ukraine,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
