How many times has the grace of God appeared, as if out of nowhere, to help us? I can think of so many times when I sat in sheer gratitude for the love and grace of God in my life. I recently took a couple of trips to Colorado and being from West Texas where everything is flat, my eyes were in awe of the mountains and beautiful trees that just appeared on the horizon as we drove north. The funny thing is, they had been there all along. It seemed to me that they suddenly appeared but in reality, I just wasn’t aware of these beautiful landmarks.

'Just be fair': Local school leaders stay on their toes amid TEA changes

Leaders of local school districts are staying on their toes amid the changes at the Texas Education Agency that prompted a lawsuit against the agency’s commissioner in August. Although Muleshoe Independent School District was the only district in Education Service Center Region 17 that joined the hundred-plus Texas districts in the lawsuit, the superintendents of Brownfield and Meadow Independent School Districts indicated this week that they championed the idea.

The Brownfield High School Board of Directors met for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting Monday. Several students and staff were recognized for their recent performances this month. The longest discussion centered around the Brownfield High School Police Department.

City Council discusses the status of buildings around the square

The Brownfield City Council met Thursday morning for their regularly scheduled meeting to discuss several items on the agenda. The longest discussion revolved around the addition of a police department to Brownfield ISD. Council members Kelli Mendez, J.C Tijerina, Leon Pope, Marshall Martell, Mark Williams and Jimmy Garza were all present on the quorum along with Mayor Tom Hesse, City Manager Jeff Davis, City Secretary Kelly Burris and City Attorney Matt Wade. Celso Duran was absent from the meeting.
