Texas Firefighteres Completely Contain Panhandle Inferno that Burned More than 1 Million Acres

LUBBOCK — Firefighters have completely contained the Smokehouse Creek fire in Hutchinson County after a nearly threeweek battle with what quickly became the largest wildfire in Texas history. Average gasoline prices in Texas have risen 14.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.04/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 15.1 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 2.8 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has declined 2.2 cents in the last week and stands at $4.00 per gallon.

The Terry County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that a deceased body was found six miles south of Brownfield, heading toward Wellman on Highway 137. The Terry County Sheriff’s Department and Texas Rangers were all out on the scene.
