The Meadow football team finished the season 1-8 overall and 1-3 in 6 Man Region 1, District 4-1A. The Broncos missed out on making the playoffs following a road loss to O’Donnell on the final game of the season. Following the season Bronco players were selected to the first and second teams and received a few honorable mentions.

Read moreThe Brownfield girls’ basketball team was on the road visiting Monterey on Tuesday night. The Lady Cubs opened the game with a quick start leading 19-9 at the end of the first quarter. Brownfield struggled on the defensive end in the second quarter allowing Monterey to score 17 points and cut the lead to 35-26 at halftime. Brownfield continued to struggle on the defensive end in the third quarter losing 18-15 and having its nine-point lead cut to six. The Lady Cubs found their rhythm in the final quarter on both ends as they scored 22 points and held the home team to a low seven points to secure their sixth straight win.

Yet the Lady Broncos suffered from a cold start losing the first quarter 20-2 and faced an uphill battle to end their losing streak. Meadow’s defense improved in the second quarter but the offense continued to struggle with both teams scoring only six points, and the Lady Broncos trailing 26-8 at halftime. The Lady Broncos struggled after the break as Stanton went on to win the quarter 16-5. Trailing 42-13 going into the final quarter, the Lady Broncos looked for a final rally to win at home. Meadow went on the win the fourth, 10-7, but it was not enough to snap its losing streak.

It was a close game for all four quarters with the Broncos trailing 11-10 after one-quarter of play. Meadow went into the half with a 21-20 lead and held onto the one-point lead at the end of the third 32-31. But Stanton went on to win the fourth quarter 11-9, and steal the home win from the Broncos.

Both teams came into the game short-handed with the Cubs calling up a few junior varsity players for the night. The Cubs went on to defend their home court with a 74-58 win in what many will remember as a tale of two halves for the Cubs.

The Lady ‘Cats faced a difficult task trying to upset the No. 4 ranked team and the task became much more difficult when they trailed 27-4 at the end of the first. The Lady ‘Cats’ struggles continued in the second where they lost the quarter 20-8 and went into halftime trailing 47-12. The second half was the same as the first as Sands was too much for the Wellman and they lost the third quarter 20-1 and the fourth 16-2.
