The Brownfield boys and girls’ powerlifting teams participated in the Sundown Powerlifting Meet on Saturday, January 29. Powerlifting Head Coach Jacob Perez said they had 14 lifters medal in their respective weight classes and the Lady Cubs were team runner ups. Brownfield will compete at the Levelland/Seagraves Invitational on Saturday, February 12.

Deja Johnson had 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Dabria Blackwell had a team high 3 blocks and Rhianna Miranda had a team high 8 rebounds. The Lady Cubs improved to 11-0 in District 3-3A and closed their district season at home against Littlefield on Senior Night on Friday with tip-off set for 6:15 p.m.

The Cubs played well in the first half being able to dictate the tempo with their ability to score from the perimeter and get into the paint for a 38-30 lead at the half. The second half saw the Cubs go away from their strength and allow Lamesa to get back into the game through offensive boards and getting to the free throw line to steal a win. The Cubs had three players score in double figures led by Malik Mason with a double-double 14 points and 11 rebounds along with team highs of 3 steals and 2 blocks. Jojo Carrillo had 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals off the bench. Devin Hines added 10 points all in the first quarter, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. Quavience Busby led the team with 4 assists. The Cubs return home on Friday for an important matchup against Littlefield. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

The win for the Lady Broncos also secured Head Coach Nick Tarr's 100th career win. “This milestone is a good achievement but they are meant to be had,” Coach Tarr said. “I’m excited I got to achieve this one with this special team. I’m also excited we were able to do it in Meadow with a great fan base and my family being there and always supporing me.” Tarr also commented that he will have more time to rest and enjoy the achievement once the season is over. “Right now we still have games to worry about and playoffs to look forward to.” The leading scorers for Meadow’s win were K'Lynn Tarin with nine points and J'Leigh Tarin with eight points. The Wellman-Union Lady Cats were led by Cameron Resindez with six points and Kenzie Harp with five points. The Lady Broncos will look to host Whiteface at home on Friday, with the Lady Cats hosting Whitharral in Wellman.
