The Brownfield Lady Cubs begin their quest to defend their State 3A championship on Monday when they travel to Pecos High School and face Anthony (11-17, 1-7) in the Bi-District round. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.

In addition to getting those extra reps in the 3A, The Brownfield Cubs team got to the 4A Regional Quarterfinals and lost to Big Spring. Christian Rios, Julius Alaniz, and Kayden Wise led the team in scoring with 4 points each. The loss was a big hit for the Wildcats playoff hopes as they go into Friday’s game against Loop in a must win situation to force a possible play-in game for the fourth seed in District 7-1A. Wellman-Union was scheduled to play Dawson on Tuesday, but Dawson canceled its season resulting in an automatic win for the Wildcats.

With the win the Lady ‘Cats improve to 5-4 in District 7-1A and finish 6-4 in district as Tuesday’s road finale was against Dawson, which canceled its season. The Lady ‘Cats are playoff bound and await the finale of Meadow vs. Whitharral on Tuesday to determine seeding. If Whitharral defeats Meadow on Tuesday then all three teams will be in a three-way tie for second place, and if that happens they will determine seeding by a coin flip and two seeding games. If Meadow defeats Whitharral, Wellman-Union goes into the Class 1A playoffs as a third seed and will await to see who, where, and when the game will be played.

Read moreThe Brownfield Lady Cubs defeated Littlefield 67-30 to end District 3-3A undefeated at 12-0 and give Head Coach Michelle Wyatt her 300th career win. Gabi Fields led the Lady Cubs in scoring with 21 points, Tia Johnson added 10 points, and Shay’la Blackwell and Deja Johnson both had 9 points. The Lady Cubs go into the Class 3A playoffs as a district champion and will face a fourth place team in the Bi-District round. The University Interscholastic League has set the date for the Bi-District round for February 14 to 15.
