Jo and Homer E. Jones were laid to rest at the Terry County Cemetery on November 7, 2020. Jo and Homer were life-long West Texans, born, reared, and wed while in Slaton. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Aquila and Viola Pruitt, and four siblings. Homer was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Ethel Jones, and seven siblings. They also had a son, Barry, and granddaughter, Jill, who preceded them and are interred beside them in Brownfield. They are survived by three sons, and a daughter: Homer Jones, Jr. and spouse, Jane; Rick Jones and spouse, Georgia; Larry Jones and spouse, Cindy; and daughter Dorinda Cooper and spouse Michael Cooper. They have eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, with one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild due in July. Homer was a WWII veteran and Ex-POW. Homer and Jo were wed June 1, 1946, in Slaton, while he was enrolled in Texas Tech College, and they lived in Slaton after their marriage. After receiving his BS degree from Texas Tech, they moved to Wellman, where he took a teaching position as Wellman's first Vocational Ag teacher. He served in that capacity for 35 years. They moved to Lubbock in 2000 after 52 years in Wellman. Homer was a minister of the Lord’s word at several congregations of the Churches of Christ, including Wellman, Graham Chapel, Grassland, and others. He was also a farmer, store clerk, cotton gin employee, loving husband, father of five, teacher and mentor of two generations, good friend, and patriot. Jo was a farm girl who, during WWII, became a bank teller in Wilson, was assistant post-mistress in Wellman, store clerk, devoted, supportive wife, nurturing, doting, mother of five, and dear faithful friend. Above all, both loved God, His Son and, His word. They were pure examples of Christ’s teachings and showed that through their cherishing love for each other, their children, family, friends, community, and the United States of America. Their passing has left a void in thousands of peoples lives. They are truly missed. The public is invited to a Memorial and Celebration of the lives of Homer and Jo. It will be held Memorial Day, May 31, 2021, at 2 pm, at South Plains Church of Christ; 6802 Elkhart Ave. in Lubbock, TX. The family is inviting all to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children’s Home of Lubbock or the South Plains Honor Flight.

Dorothy was born on May 8, 1928 in Palestine, Texas to Bessie Arrendell and Robert Harp. On July, 24, 1944, she married Calvin Ingram of Tennessee Colony, Texas. They moved to West Texas in 1948 and lived in Meadow, TX for 50 years before moving to Bullard. Dorothy loved her family and friends and she never met a stranger. She loved to play cards and dominoes, sew, quilt, garden, play games with family and sit on her porch watching the birds. She was a great cook, baker, and an avid country music lover. Dorothy was known for her strength of mind and people remember her as fun to be around. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Harp: her mother, Bessie Arrendell; and stepfather, Gene Arrendell; one sister, Bobbie Hudson; and son, Larry. She is survived by three daughters, Brenda (James) Ivey of Flint, TX, Cuban (Ronnie) Hartman of Tyler, TX, and Dell (James) Ward of Texarkana, TX; several nieces, nephews, 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. A funeral service for Mrs. Ingram will be held on Wednesday, May 26th at 11 a.m. at Herrington/ Land of Memory Funeral Home, 3434 South Loop 256 in Palestine, TX. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021, at 2:00pm at First United Methodist Church in Brownfield, TX, with interment to follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. “J.W.” was born to Walter Harrell Jr and Erma L Harrell, December 11, 1945. He attended school in Brownfield at Wheatly and was known for his great pitching on the baseball field. At a young age he met, fell in love, and married Enola G. Harrell on March 27, 1977. They grew and lived in unconditional love for forty-forty years. J.W. had a heart full of love and was so very giving. He loved children and appreciated the fact that he was able to instill the word of God into them. He relished in the fact that he was able to plant seeds of love and pour into children by reading, learning, and teaching the bible. He and Enola had a weekly bible study for over sixteen years for children and all that wanted to attend. JW was a professional truck driver and touched many lives along with touching road for over forty-five years. J.W. loved traveling, fishing and being outdoors. He enjoyed playing the guitar but most of all he loved and served the Lord and was a devout man after God’s own heart. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by Erma (mother), Walter (father), Stance, J.T., Bill, Walter Jr, Maurice, and Gilbert (brothers)/ Inez, Earlene, Vera, Bobbie, Joyce, and Bessie (sisters). Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Enola, four sons Gilbert “Lynn” (Sandra) of Brownfield, Tx, Ivan (Pam) of Hobbs, NM, Rube Harrell, Midland, Tx, Ricky of Newcastle, Ok and Regina of Washington, D.C. He also leaves to cherish his memories his brothers; Robert and Johnny of Eastland, Texas, David (Kathy) of Dallas, Tx, Douglas, Claude (Felicia) of Brownfield, Tx. Sisters; Merlene, Dorothy, Annie, Frances, Ella, and Leatrice of Brownfield, Tx. One Uncle Willie K Ross, Sr., and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Meadow Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life following at 11 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Meadow. Eva John was born in Wells, Texas on February 16, 1930 to Elsie McLaurin and John Emanuel Etter. She grew up as the youngest of three sisters in Lynn County and attended school in O’Donnell. Eva John married Raymond Wilson on July 3, 1946. They moved to Terry County in 1953 and became active members of the Meadow community where Eva John operated the Meadow Beauty Shop. She was a longtime Sunday School teacher at the Meadow Church of Christ, and the Iglesias de Cristo, a member of the Senior Citizen’s Club, a board member for the Meadow Museum, and a volunteer whenever and wherever she was needed for the school and the community. She sewed many custom outfits for special events and school programs. Raymond preceded her in death in 2014. She is survived by her sister, Billie Teeter of Bryan; her children Johnece and Pete Marchbanks of Bryan and Floyd and Linda Wilson of Lubbock. She leaves grandchildren Johnette and Joe Trumbo, Shannon and Christy Wilson, Laurin and Jody Ramirez, Allison and Danny Wideman, and Trey and Kelli Marchbanks as well as ten great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to New Mexico Children’s Home or the Meadow Museum.

She married Isidro Villanueva in Brownfield. Olivia was a good daughter, sister who loved her family with all of her heart. In her free time, she loved to go fishing. Olivia is preceded in death by her husband Isidro Villanueva; son, Raymundo Hernandez; parents, Reyes and Sara Alcorta; four sisters and five brothers. Olivia is survived by sister, Sara Tapia and husband Juan; brother Chris Alcorta; three grandchildren, Olivia, Coral, and Raul.

A viewing and visitation will on Monday, May 10, 2021 from 10am to 11:30 at Brownfield Funeral Home. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Louise was born on June 17, 1925 in Marietta, Oklahoma to Ambrose Powell and Maud Daughrity. She was the youngest of 8 children. The family moved to Terry County in December of 1928, settling in the Gomez Community. Louise met Odell Sears, the love of her life, at Gomez. She attended the Gomez schools until she transferred to Brownfield Schools in her Junior year. She graduated in May 1942. Louise joined the Gomez Baptist Church in 1938 and was baptized in a stock tank. In 1943, she and her mom moved to town, and Louise began a career as a buyer for Latham’s Department Store and worked for Collins Department Store. Later during WWII, she worked in California at the Kaiser Shipyard. Odell returned from Europe in 1945 after WWII ended and they married on December 15, 1945. She and Odell began a life in Brownfield. In 1975 they bought Copeland Hardware and it became Sears-Copeland Hardware. They rebuilt the store after a fire in 1983 and renamed it Odell’s. They retired and closed the store in January of 1991. They had two children, Joe Sears and Susan Sears-Roberts. Their life was each other, their children, work, the First Baptist Church and Texas Tech Men’s basketball. Louise started teaching Sunday School at First Baptist Church in 1950, was a lifelong Democrat, served on the PTA and Terry County Historical Commission, and was a season ticket holder for 60 years of the men’s Texas Tech University basketball. Preceding Louise into heaven is her husband of 69 years, Odell; parents; brother; sisters and Odell’s 3 brothers. Louise is survived by her son, Joe Sears of Brownfield; daughter, Susan Roberts and husband Chris of Lubbock; Step-granddaughter, Alison Henry and husband Aaron; step-great-grandson, Ethan of Mobile, Alabama; many nieces and nephews from both sides of the family and many friends. Read moreMichael “Glen” Wooley passed from this life to the next on April 30, 2021 at the age of 62. Glen was born to JC and Dora Mae Wooley of Brownfield on February 10, 1959. He was the youngest of four children in a farming family. He accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at a young age. He attended Brownfield High School and began farming in 1976. He farmed from 1976 to 1985. He then had work experience as a mechanic in Austin, moved back to Brownfield and worked in the oil field. Glen purchased Moonlight Window Tinting in 1989. He cultivated his business over many years where many of his customers became like family to him. In his later years, Glen took pride in managing the Wooley farm which originated in 1921 by the late WD Carter. Glen loved to feel the wind in his hair. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and seeker of fun. Riding motorcycles with his children was a favorite pastime of his. You would often find him riding his Harley to Ruidoso or hopping in his Camaro and driving up and down the Texas highways. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor often calling himself the selfappointed Mayor of Gomez. He is preceded in death by his parents JC and Dora Mae Wooley. He is survived by his children: Tiffany Beeles and husband Shannon of Lubbock, Justin Wooley of McKinney, Adam Wooley of Lubbock, and Katie Billingsley and husband Roger of Lubbock; five grandchildren: Ashton and Tate Beeles, Addison Wooley, and Logan and Sadie Kauffman. He is also survived by his brother, Jim Wooley of Sundown;sisters, Linda Albert and husband Alvin of Wolfforth; and Freda Wooley of Austin, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 5, from 4-6 p.m. at Brownfield Funeral Home. A family burial will be conducted at a later date.
