A late Christmas gift to all Terry County ballers

This past week after celebrating Christmas with those you can, in what has been a weird time due to COVID restrictions, we saw the return of the NBA and the Christmas slate of games. With many of those games being the second or third game of the season for the teams selected to play on Christmas, I hope that many young basketball players enjoyed watching those games.

LADY CUBS GO INTO CHRISTMAS BREAK WITH A WIN

The Brownfield girls’ basketball team played the back end of a back to back at home against Snyder on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Cubs defeated Muleshoe on Monday and looked to win their second back to back game in a non district matchup with the Lady Tigers. After a quick four quarters the Lady Cubs gave their fans an early Christmas gift of a 62-47 win their 12th win of the season and fourth in a row.

Athlete of the Week

The junior guard had two strong games to help the Lady Cubs stay unbeaten in district with an 18 points, one rebound, eight steals, and two assists performance against Friona. She followed that with a 12 point, six rebounds, two steals, and three assists against Muleshoe. In the non district game against Snyder, she had an eight point, five boards, and an assist in the win.

Not long ago the Terry County community lost a special person from complications to the coronavirus. Tony Dill passed away on Oct. 23 and it shook the community. However, he will not be forgotten.

Terry Co. COVID cases decrease

As the Christmas holiday approaches, there are some concerns that CO- VID-19 cases could spike as it did right after the Thanksgiving holiday. Health professionals and the South Plains Public health District are asking people to be responsible about gatherings and continue to practice good hygiene and if a person is sick, stay home.

With Christmas falling on Friday this year, many businesses are taking a little extra time off. Most everyone, including United Supermarket will be closed on Christmas Day.United Pharmacy will close at 3 p.m. Thursday and closed Friday with regular business hours on Saturday. LifeCare Pharmacy will close at 1p.m. Thursday and close on Friday and open Saturday. Brown- field Family Physicians will be closing at noon on Thursday and be closed all day Friday and Saturday. Nelson Pharmacy will be closing at 2 p.m. Thursday and closed Friday and Saturday. Clinic Pharmacy will be closing at noon Thurs- day and close Friday and Saturday. Prosperity Bank will close at 1 p.m. on Thursday and be closed on Friday. Lone Star State Bank will be closing at noon on Thursday and closed Friday. Sundown State Bank will be closing at noon on Thursday and will be closed Friday. Brownfield Federal Credit Union will be closing at noon on Thursday and will be closed Friday. Terry County Courthouse will be closing at noon December 23 and will be closed Thursday and Friday. Brownfield City Hall will be closed on Thursday and Friday. All Federal offices will be closed on Christmas Day. The Brownfield News will be closed Thursday and Friday. The News will reopen Monday with regular hours. For any other business, please contact that individual business for their hours.
