The Meadow boys’ basketball team hosted Kress in its final home game of the year on Friday night. The Broncos were coming off a home win earlier in the week and looked to go into the Christmas break on a two-game winning streak. Instead, the Kangaroos defeated the Wildcats 45-37 in a close game. Kress jumped out to an early two-point lead on Meadow at the end of the first, 11-9. The second quarter played similar to the first with the Broncos struggling to win the quarter and went into the half trailing 23-18. The Kangaroos were able to build a lead in the third when they held the Broncos to only four points and led 34-22 going into the fourth. In the final quarter, the Broncos went for a final rally and won the quarter 15-11 but came up short in the final score.
Read moreThe Wellman-Union boys’ basketball team faced off against Class 3A opponent Roosevelt on Friday night. The Wildcats put up a fight against the Eagles but fell 67-36. Roosevelt jumped out to an early 15-8 lead over Wellman-Union in the first and extended its lead before halftime with a 20-8 second quarter. The Wildcats trailed 35-16 and looked to get back in the game in the second half. The Wildcats scored 13 points in the third but trailed 51-29 going into the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, the Eagles held the Wildcats to seven points to secure the win.

The Brownfield City Council met on Thursday, Dec. 17 to discuss and consider a few items of business. After the call to order, invocation, and pledges, the council moved onto the agenda.

Miss Brownfield Nicole Wingard will be competing in the Miss Texas pageant in June 2021. The pageant is sponsored by the Miss Texas organization and the winner of that pageant will go on to represent Texas in the Miss America pageant.
