The Brownfield Cubs returned to action Friday as they took on and defeated the Slaton Tigers 20-6. The first quarter went as quick as it came with both teams exchanging punts early on. This trend would continue deep into the second quarter as neither team could get much going offensively. Brownfield forced a Slaton punt, the punt would be muffed and recovered by Slaton, and they were in business deep inside Brownfield territory. Backto- back negative plays for the Tigers would force them to throw it on third down and long, which is when Jayden Gonzales came up with a huge interception that he would return all the way to midfield. The Cubs would finally find the endzone with 36 seconds left when J.J Martinez would hit Kaydyn Moore for a 9- yard touchdown reception, the PAT was good, and the score was 7-0 and it would stay that way going into halftime.
