Some have seen those green boxes around Brownfield, either in an alley, by a fence, or next to a curb. Unlike what some might believe that those green boxes are little alien houses and they will come out at night to get you, those green boxes are actually “pedestals” that are covering the new fiber optic cables that Optimum is putting in. TownTalk brought you a story back (related story) in early January about a new company, Optimum, coming to Brownfield and other local communities that will have another option for internet and television services.

The season has officially come to an end for District 3-3A which means it is time for the post season honors to be officially announced. This year the Brownfield Lady Cubs saw two of their own earn All-District honors. Junior guard Rhianna Miranda, and Sophomore post Kaylynn (K.K.) Fininen were tabbed with All-District honors. With an entirely new roster, expectations remained the same from Coach Wyatt and these ladies helped push their teammates to a second-place finish and an appearance in the Bi-District round of the playoffs. Miranda got to see her first real action this year on the perimeter and as a primary ball handler and really flourished in the role. Being able to both find her looks and get baskets when she needed to and set up her teammates for easy looks. Adversity did strike as Miranda would suffer an injury that kept her sidelined for 3 games which hurt the Lady Cubs as they dropped those three games as well as Mirandas first game back from injury. Fininen on the other hand continued to get better as the season progressed, it was evident that adjustments to the varsity level had to be made but it didn’t take long for that to happen and by the end of the season Fininen was playing some of her best basketball. A key cog on the defensive end down low, effecting shots and securing rebounds. Fininen also had a knack for sneaking in on the offensive end and getting timely putbacks for the Lady Cubs among many other things. Though the season may have come to an end earlier than the Lady Cubs may have anticipated, they only graduate one player. So with virtually everyone returning next year the future is very bright for the Lady Cubs basketball program
