The Lady Cub volleyball camp is an opportunity for newly signed head coach Courtney VanderDussen to get to know her new athletes. VanderDussen, who is on a short schedule, she was just hired a few weeks ago, is taking every chance she gets to get to know her new found athletes as fast as possible.
Read moreIf you didn’t stay up late to see the 14U travel team in action Saturday, July 16 you missed out. The 14U softball team decided that losing wasn’t something that they really cared to do. The 14U Lady Cubs softball team ended up going 4-1 in the tournament. The Lady Cubs played the LBK Outkast and won in a landslide 10-2. The team then played Vicious Fastpitch and won the game with ease as well with a score of 10-1. The Lady Cubs would then play Traviesas Softball Squad 3 times and win the series 2-1. The first of three games the Lady Cubs won 4-3. In the second game the Lady cubs took a tough one to the chin and lost 6-5. The third and final game the Lady Cubs rallied to beat Traviesas Softball Squad 13-1. The Lady Cubs 14U team is the Midnight Madness tournament champion.

Read moreJustin Cabe and the Terry County Youth Sports swung for the fence and landed the Babe Ruth Southwest Region Softball Tournament this week. Justin was asked how Terry County managed to land such a great event? He said it’s simple. Hard work, “Last year we hosted the state tournament here and Queston Perry he was real big in helping us get that and so last year we had a couple girls qualify for regionals in Houma, Louisiana and while out there Joe Ky Shultz our Regional Director was out there he was talking to one of the directors and next thing you know we’re getting text and calls asking if we were interested in hosting the tournament, so we put our name in and we were selected.”

He loves to call balls and strikes but he loves seeing these young people get opportunities in the game even more,”you’re never gonna know who’s watching. That’s what I tell the kids. There could be LSU coaches, Texas Tech coaches at the game. It’s important they be on their best behavior because there are millions of kids that want to play college ball but at the end of the day if someone is watching you and you don’t have the right attitude or personality nobody wants that. Everybody is setting an example on how to compose yourself not only on the field but most importantly outside the field and you’re not just a good baseball player but you’re setting an example for your community and your town. They matter just as much as your play on the field does”.

The average temperature last week in Brownfield according to Willy Weather was 94 degrees. The Heat isn’t just affecting the ball players but the umpires as well. Queston Perry, a local umpire says, “The heat affects everyone on the field when you’re out there for 1-2 hours it gets to you especially with all the gear. At the end of the day yeah we need to take care of the girls but we can’t do that if we aren’t watching ourselves first”.
