The Wellman-Union boys’ and girls’ cross country team had a strong performance at the Smyer Invite hosted by Smyer High on Saturday, Sept. 19 for the varsity runners and Monday, Sept. 21 for the junior high runners.

Brownfield Head Coach Aarrhon Flores is looking for consistency from his team.

The Broncos’ first game they had to travel almost four hours to Newcastle. Then the next week the Broncos travelled a little over 2 hours to meet up with the #10 Blackwell Hornets, that outcome was a 62-14 loss. Next was a home game against six-man Valley and that game was over at halftime 46-0. Like the other games, last week’s was not going to be easy either as the Broncos traveled to Klondike to take on the #7 Cougars, but the Broncos didn’t get to stay in Klondike very long as they went home at halftime one more time.

It shows that the Wildcats have already had a rough season, they have them ranked at 74 out of 76 teams in DI. In their overall rankings of six man football teams in UIL and private schools they have the Wildcats sitting at 235 out of 260. The Wildcats have scored only four times and that’s once in all four games, not to mention they have had the 45 point mercy rule applied to them in each game.
Read moreAfter a two hour bus drive the fourth ranked Brownfield volleyball team began conference play against Friona. Brownfield struggled to get any rhythm in the beginning of the first set, before breaking away for a 25-18 win. From that win the Lady Cubs began to play their normal game taking the next two sets, 25-15 and 25-15, to get the sweep and the first win in conference play. Lady Cubs head coach Mallorie Ellis praised her players for overcoming the slow start on the road.
