As a result of the power outage at Brownfield Middle School, the district basketball games between Brownfield HS and Friona HS scheduled for Friday at home, have been moved to Lubbock Christian High School.

Read moreThe Brownfield Cubs held off a late rally from Lamesa to earn a 64-63 win to improve to 4-0 in District 3-3A. Both teams played a very close game throughout but the final three minutes saw both teams tied at 58-58 and go back and forth, until the home team was able to pull off a win with a defensive stop at the buzzer. Jojo Carrillo led the team in scoring with 17 points and assists with 3. Malik Mason added 12 points and 13 rebounds with 6 on the offensive end. Quavience Busby led the team with 5 steals. As a team the Cubs out rebounded Lamesa 37-35 and 15-10 on the offensive end. The Cubs had three blocks as a team to 0 by Lamesa. The Golden Tornadoes won the steals battle 15-9 and assists 15-9.

The Wildcats played on the road and were able to ride a strong defensive pressure to hold off the home team and secure a road win. Levi DePoyster led the Wildcats with 11 points and Julius Alaniz added 10 points in the win. Wellman held Petersburg to five points in the first quarter and seven in the second and third quarterz. The Wildcats offense scored 12 in the first, 14 in the second, and 12 in the third to secure a road win.

Sadie Crowley led the Lady ‘Cats with 7 points and Kenzie Harp added 6 points in the loss. The Lady ‘Cats struggled offensively in the first half scoring only 6 points by halftime. They were able to get a rhythm in the third quarter scoring 13 points but any chance of a comeback was stopped when Whiteface held Wellman to 1 point in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Cubs improve to 6-0 in District 3-3A and continue in first place and in position to win back-to-back District 3-3A titles. The Lady Cubs had four players finish in double digit scoring with Ashley Ramirez and Deja Johnson both scoring 16 points a piece and Shy’la Blackwell and Gabi Fields both scoring 12 points each. Tia Johnson led the team in rebounds with 11 with 8 on the defensive boards and assists with 5. Fields led the team in steals with 8. As a team the Lady Cubs outrebounded Lamesa 36-21 overall, 33-27 on the defensive end, and 13-10 on the offensive end. They had 18 steals and 20 assists, and forced Lamesa into 13 turnovers.
