Funeral services for George Paul Ramirez will held Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Carter officiating and under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home. George passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 in Lubbock. He was born on February 3, 1965 in Lamesa. His parents were Juan and Clara Ramirez. He served in the United States Marine Corps. George married Irma Lira on May 1, 1986 in Brownfield. George loved his family and enjoyed woodworking. He is preceded in death by his father, Juan Ramirez; brother, Virgil Lee Lawrence; aunt, Maria Munoz; and birth mother, Eloisa Ramirez. George is survivied by his wife Irma Ramirez; mother, Clara Ramirez; three sons, Samuel Ramirez, Juan Thomas Ramirez, Daniel Ramirez; five grandchildren; two sisters, Sharon Lynn Walker, Loujuana Kidd; three brothers, Elvin Ray Lawrence, William Ramirez, and Juan V. Ramirez.

Maria Elena was born to Jesus and Francisca Cantu in Meadow, Texas on December 17, 1947.She was known by Mary to some and Elena to most. Mary met Raymond Gonzales and married in May 17, 1974 they resided in Brownfield all of their lives along with their 5 children. No words can describe Mary best like the word “selfless”. She was one of the most giving persons that anyone had the privilege to ever meet. If she heard of a person in need she would do everything possible to help them. One of her greatest passions was cooking. Putting her selflessness and her cooking skills together she cooked up some amazing things up for this community. She held many fundraisers to help others from little league teams buy uniforms to those needing help with medical expenses. She catered many weddings, quincentenaries’ and a lot of meals that had lost their loved ones. Mary loved to help her church of St. Anthony’s she made sure that she had a booth for the Jamaica every year she helped with the Bereavementcommittee and many other church functions. Mary’s other great passion was The Cub Drive In. She started working at the age of 13 and worked for many years as an employee and then came back after a short break as the “Boss”.Mary loved her kids and grandkids and great grandkids unconditionally. She showed her family the true meaning of a strong hard-working woman. She fought through many storms with strength that only comes from God, until last week when she said she was tired and was ready when the Good Lord was ready for her. Saying that she will be greatly missed is an understatement. Mary is survived by her five children Pete Garza and Angie of Brownfield. Cynthia Tealer of Brownfield, Teresa and husband Valde Flores of Lubbock, Mark Gonzales and wife Gloria of Lubbock and Jona and husband Clay Rolan of Canyon. 11 grandkids Eric Garza, Tara Garza, Rocky Garza, Linda Chavez, Latisha Tealer, Kasandra Tealer, Leslie Flores, Abrian and Zarin Gonzales, Madi and Brody Rolan. 21 great grandkids and 4 great grandchildren. 4 sisters Anita Romero, Vera Jimenez, Delia Barnhart, Dora Cantu and brother Robert Cantu. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Gonzales and her parents Jesus and Francisca Cantu, two brothers Jose Tijerina and Lupe Tijerina and one great great grandson.

She was no stranger to hard work and she instilled that quality in all of her kids, and made sure that it was passed down to the future generations as well. Together with Frank, she raised 8 children and family get togethers were the highlight of every season and holiday, with every corner of the house filled with the love and laughter that radiated from within. She was an avid supporter of each and every one of her kids, grandkids and later great-grandkids and could often be found wherever they were competing. Her dedication didn’t end there, thus earning her the unofficial titles of Mom and Grandma at the Wellman school and her own corner in the Wildcat gym to watch the games. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Benny Hilburn; and one son in law, Joe Cavazos. She is survived by her husband Frank, 3 sons: Frank Jr and wife Fay of Brownfield, Daniel and wife Tina of Lubbock and Roy of Brownfield; 5 daughters: Lucy Frei and husband Chris of Brownfield, Mary Jiminez and husband Roel of Brownfield, Angie Cavazos of Brownfield, Lusinda of Brownfield, and Nancy Mendieta and husband Jovan of Brownfield; 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way. She is also survived by one brother Louis Hilburn of Caldwell, Tx; and 4 sisters, Mary Ellen Hernandez of Brownfield, Estella Villasenor of Amarillo, TX, Rosa Zuniga of Lubbock, TX and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.Visitation at the Brownfield Funeral Home will be on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and services are scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. Bill graduated from Hale Center High School in 1954 and attended Howard Payne College on a football scholarship. He served in the U. S. Army as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division and later as a member of the Military Police. Bill and Karen (Foshee) were married March 18, 1961, celebrating 59 years in 2020. Bill worked in the cotton gin business in Lockney, Hale Center and Brownfield approximately 55 years; retiring in 2017.Bill was known for his love of family and charismatic charm which inspired devotion in others. He was a friend to all and always willing to go the extra mile for someone in need. He was a gentle giant and loved to tell stories. Bill attended Monterey Church of Christ. Survivors include Karen, 3 children Kevin (Reagan) of Ontario, CA; Rebecca Swan of Lubbock, TX; Jerry Don of Hewitt, TX; 2 brothers Bob Evans (Bev) of Plainview, TX; Maxey Evans (Norma) of Cross Plains, TX; 3 sisters Bonnie Shackelford of Austin, TX; Sue McBeth (Bobby) of Plainview, TX; Jo Alice Partin of Abilene, TX. Bill was blessed with 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Hailey Evans. She grew up in Davis Oklahoma, where she met and married the love of her life, Leslie Lee Jolly on November 26, 1942, and became a military wife. Mildred is preceded in death by her husband Leslie Jolly, son in-laws Jim Turnbeaugh and Shawn Burns, her parents, and each of her siblings. She is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Turnbeaugh of Tucson Arizona, and Katherine Burns of Brownfield Texas, grandchildren Nicole Turnbeaugh of Tucson Arizona, Jacob Turnbeaugh and wife Rachel of Tucson Arizona, Michelle Burns Nolte and husband Kenny of Lubbock Texas, and five Greatgrandchildren, Jameson, Jaxon, and Jagger Turnbeaugh of Tucson Arizona, and Skylar and Mason Nolte of Lubbock Texas. Mildred is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Mildred was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Brownfield, Texas. There will be 2 memorial services, Calvary Baptist Church of Brownfield on Friday, August 28th at 2:00 pm. With the family being available for visitation at 1:00 pm, and Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast, in El Paso Texas on Tuesday, October 1st at 12:00 pm, with a visitation at 11:00 am, with her Committal Service at 1:30 pm at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Read moreMelvin “Doc” Edgar Eaker, 89, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2020 in Katy, Texas. He was born August 1, 1931 in Plains, Kansas to Willie Bell (Lazenby) and Melvin Eaker. One of four boys, he attended schools in both O’Donnell and Uvalde High Schools where he graduated in 1948 and attended Tarleton State College. Additionally, Doc proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Edgar or “Doc” as he was more readily known as, was a custom harvester for over 60 years. He and his crew cut grain from Central Texas to the Canadian border and returned to the High Planes to cut the fall crops of milo and sunflowers every year. He was even inducted into the U.S. Custom Harvesters Hall of Fame in 2000 and helped establish a scholarship fund along with his then wife, Shirley†. Doc is preceded in death by his parents (Melvin and Willie), brothers Jimmy and Kenneth. He is survived by his wife Elaine of Katy, his brother, Harold Eaker of Uvalde, son Gordon Eaker of Uvalde, daughters Lynette Eaker of Hurst, and Charla (Cliff) Hatfield of Sinton. He is also survived by his three grandchildren: Alex (Carlos) Perez of San Diego, Carlee (Ryan) Olson of Corpus Christi, and Cooper (Nina) Hatfield of Corpus Christi, six greatgrandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Elaine has her children V.L. Morris, Kay (Ted) Woods and Lynda (Rick) Baker by her side through the losing of her beloved husband, Doc. Due to current health and safety concerns, the memorial services for Doc will be held in both Uvalde, TX and O’Donnell, TX at a later date to be announced so that we may honor Doc’s wishes to be cremated and his ashes to be scattered in a wheat field.
