Romana Olivares 95 of Hereford-Brownfield passed away on May 16, 2020. Viewing was held Friday May 22, 2020 3-8pm at Grace Funeral and Cremation Care Inc. with graveside services 11am Saturday May 23, 2020 at Brownfield Cemetery.
Read moreRoy Glen McCalib, age 70, was born in Hobbs, NM to Jessie Everett McCalib and Betty Jewel McCullough McCalib on April 25, 1950. After one and half long years Roy lost his fight with cancer on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at his sisters home in Eunice, NM with his family by his side. Roy was a christian of the Baptist denomination. Roy is survived by his mother, Betty McCalib of Eunice NM, one son Roy (Shorty) McCalib Jr and wife Brandi of Lubbock, TX. One daughter, Shanda Mae Dawn Hathcock and husband Gary of Paris, TX. One sister Barbara Winter of Eunice, NM. Five grandchildren, McKinzie, Hunter, and Hudson McCalib of Lubbock, TX. Madison and Mackeniz Jackson of Paris, TX. Three nephews and one niece. Three aunts and two uncles. Roy is preceded in death by his father Jessie Everett McCalib, brother Howard McCalib, and one nephew Jessie Winters. The McCalib family moved to Brownfield, TX when Roy was young. He graduated from Brownfield High School. Roy worked many years at the family business, McCalib Services in the oil and gas industry. Roy was a member of the Terry County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo Association where he participated in many rodeo activities. Roy later moved to Ruidoso, NM and then to Eunice, NM while still working in the oil and gas industry. Roy worked for his uncle Charlie Bettis at B&H Construction which became New Mexico Rentals. Cremation has taken place. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please contribute to your favorite charity or the American Cancer Society.

He was born to the late Joseph Hugh Wilbourn and Winifred McDonald Wilbourn July 10, 1934 in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Seagraves High School and attended Texas Tech University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He married Susie Jones May 16, 1959 in Seagraves. He retired as a Telephone Engineer with the General Telephone Company and was an active member of the Living Hope Foursquare Church. He was preceded in death by a sister Christine Henry and a grandson. Survivors include his wife, Susie of Brownfield, two sons Mark Wilbourn and wife Danna of Lubbock and Matthew Wilbourn and wife Lynna of Kempner, Texas; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm, Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Ratliff Funeral Home.

She was born on February 9, 1936 in Roby, TX to Alvin and Dessie Hicks. Betty was a geriatric nurse and loved to take care of her “little old people.” She loved nursing so much that she didn’t retire until the age of 80. When she had free time she enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and embroidery. She loved her family, grandchildren and God. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Dessie Hicks, and a sister, Lois Kirkendoll. Betty is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Brock and husband Joe, Susie Jordan and husband Joe; two sons, Bobby Jackson and wife Perri, Darrell Jackson and wife Nancy; four grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Daniel was born July 29, 1940 in Littlefield, Texas to Andrew and Jamie Murrell Dunlap. For many years the family lived 9 miles north of Brownfield on their cotton farm. Daniel had a heart of gold, but he could be a bit of a ring tailed tooter too! He loved to gamble and was known for his talent at playing pool and cards. You just couldn’t beat him. He stayed close to family throughout his entire life. Daniel was an introverted man, but if he let you into his heart, what a blessing it was! He was resilient and determined, even when doctors told him he had just a year to live, he took that as a challenge and with a gleam in his eye, he bet he could outlive their predictions and he did! He lived and died on his own terms. He was treasured by his family who will dearly miss him.Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Joyce Quinney. He is survived by his brother, David Jack Dunlap, three nieces, Charletta Collins, Crystal Quinney and Michelle Watson, and several great nieces and nephews. He is survived by his children to include his daughters; Sylvia Martinez (Lupe) of Brownfield, Brenda Valdez (Gonzalo) of Andrews, and Sandra Valdez of Lubbock. sons; Alex (Dora) Valdez of Brownfield, Inoe Jr (Patricia) Valdez of Denver City, Danny (Graviela) of Dumas, Richard and Mark Valdez of Brownfield. brothers; Santos and Jesse Valdez of Houston, sisters; Anita Cortinas, Louisa Garza and Rosa Valdez of Houston. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Celia Valdez, His parents, two brothers, Ismael Valdez, Alexander A Valdez, and three sisters, Ernestina Valdez, Olivia Perez and Lucia Leal.
Read moreAlfred Steve Lawlis was born January 27, 1937 in Merkel, Texas to Edward and Jimmie (Cox) Lawlis. Steve stepped into Glory on May 14, 2020 in Brownfield. Steve married the love of his life, Barbara Lee Gruben on February 9, 1958 in Wellman, Texas, and recently celebrated their 63rd Anniversary. Steve attended barber college and was co-owner of Broadway Barbershop in Brownfield until taking a position with Amoco Production Company in 1972. Steve retired from Amoco as a field foreman in 1994. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, serving on many boards, and was active in the Backyard Mission Group. Steve also served on the board of the XYZ Club, was a community reader at the elementary schools, and served as president of the Meals on Wheels, delivering food to the homebound for many years. Steve was a gentle and loving soul who never met a stranger, and was a living example of Christ’s love for others by helping anyone in need, whether it be mowing yards, repairing plumbing or moving furniture. He continued to serve his fellow man until his health began to fail. Steve loved God, his wife and his family unconditionally. In his retirement, Steve loved nothing more than spending time with his family and cheering on his great grandchildren at their sporting events. Preceding Steve in death and welcoming him into his Heavenly Home were his parents, Edward and Jimmie Lawlis, a daughter, Stephnie “Lanie” Bryant, and brothers, Kenneth Lawlis, Lynn Lawlis and Jim “Buddy” Lawlis. Left to cherish Steve’s memory are his wife, Barbara Lawlis of Lubbock; his children, Janie McClure and husband Allan of Brownfield, Sherry Yarbrough and husband Steve of Houston, and Derrick Lawlis of Greenville S.C. Steve is also survived by his sister, Clara Jo Walker of Aspermont, TX; brothers Ray Lawlis and wife Patricia of Granbury, TX, Terry Lawlis of Denton, TX, sister in law Jeri Lawlis of Lubbock, TX; 6 grandchildren, Leath McClure and wife Erin of Lubbock, Matthew McClure of Lubbock, Randi Doris and husband John of Panama City Florida, Taylor Lawlis of Greenville, SC; 9 great grandchildren, Addison, Zade, Maycen, Mac, Brooklyn, Porter, Kennedy, Blakely, and Miller.
