Mildred Martin Jolly, 96, of Brownfield Texas, left for her heavenly home on Sunday August 23, 2020. Mildred was born on September 16, 1923 in Konawa Oklahoma to James Amos Martin and Mattie Marie Ballman Martin. Mildred was the 3rd of 10 Children born to her parents. She grew up in Davis Oklahoma, where she met and married the love of her life, Leslie Lee Jolly on November 26, 1942, and became a military wife. Mildred is preceded in death by her husband Leslie Jolly, son in-laws Jim Turnbeaugh and Shawn Burns, her parents, and each of her siblings. She is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Turnbeaugh of Tucson Arizona, and Katherine Burns of Brownfield Texas, grandchildren Nicole Turnbeaugh of Tucson Arizona, Jacob Turnbeaugh and wife Rachel of Tucson Arizona, Michelle Burns Nolte and husband Kenny of Lubbock Texas, and five Greatgrandchildren, Jameson, Jaxon, and Jagger Turnbeaugh of Tucson Arizona, and Skylar and Mason Nolte of Lubbock Texas. Mildred is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Mildred was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Brownfield, Texas. There will be 2 memorial services, Calvary Baptist Church of Brownfield on Friday, August 28th at 2:00 pm. With the family being available for visitation at 1:00 pm, and Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast, in El Paso Texas on Tuesday, October 1st at 12:00 pm, with a visitation at 11:00 am, with her Committal Service at 1:30 pm at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Mildred will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving son, Leonard George, and daughter-in-law, Carol, daughter-in-law Glenda George, her sister, Hazel, five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie George, sons, Jesse and Gary George, two sisters and four brothers. Lois was born in Red Oak, Texas, but lived most of her adult life in Brownfield. A family graveside service will be held for Mrs. George.
Read moreMelvin “Doc” Edgar Eaker, 89, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2020 in Katy, Texas. He was born August 1, 1931 in Plains, Kansas to Willie Bell (Lazenby) and Melvin Eaker. One of four boys, he attended schools in both O’Donnell and Uvalde High Schools where he graduated in 1948 and attended Tarleton State College. Additionally, Doc proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Edgar or “Doc” as he was more readily known as, was a custom harvester for over 60 years. He and his crew cut grain from Central Texas to the Canadian border and returned to the High Planes to cut the fall crops of milo and sunflowers every year. He was even inducted into the U.S. Custom Harvesters Hall of Fame in 2000 and helped establish a scholarship fund along with his then wife, Shirley†. Doc is preceded in death by his parents (Melvin and Willie), brothers Jimmy and Kenneth. He is survived by his wife Elaine of Katy, his brother, Harold Eaker of Uvalde, son Gordon Eaker of Uvalde, daughters Lynette Eaker of Hurst, and Charla (Cliff) Hatfield of Sinton. He is also survived by his three grandchildren: Alex (Carlos) Perez of San Diego, Carlee (Ryan) Olson of Corpus Christi, and Cooper (Nina) Hatfield of Corpus Christi, six greatgrandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Elaine has her children V.L. Morris, Kay (Ted) Woods and Lynda (Rick) Baker by her side through the losing of her beloved husband, Doc. Due to current health and safety concerns, the memorial services for Doc will be held in both Uvalde, TX and O’Donnell, TX at a later date to be announced so that we may honor Doc’s wishes to be cremated and his ashes to be scattered in a wheat field. Read moreLuis Rodriguez, 56, of Meadow, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 20, 2020. Luis was born in Brownfield, TX to Juan and Elvira Rodriguez on June 25, 1964. He graduated from Meadow High School. He worked at United Supermarkets in Brownfield for the last 12 years. He will always be remembered for his work at Dan’s Grocery Store and Lupe’s Tire Service in Meadow for many years. Luis was bright, friendly, loving trusting friend to all. People will always remember his friendly greetings to all he encountered. He loved big and helped others with an open heart. He was a hard-working man who will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents Juan and Elvira Rodriguez. Those left to honor him are his siblings: Johnny Rodriguez and wife Kay, of Abilene, Anselmo Rodriguez and wife Sandy, of Ropesville, Mike Rodriguez and wife Anna, of Brownfield, Hope Lara and husband Tony, of Lubbock, Armando Rodriguez and wife Margaret, of Meadow, and Bernard Rodriguez, of Lubbock and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside service for Luis will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Meadow Cemetery in Meadow, TX. There will be a rosary at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2020 at Brownfield Funeral Home.

She passed from this life Saturday, August 15, 2020 in Lubbock. Weedon was born March 13, 1940 in Haskell Texas to the late Clyde and Cleta Kelley. She graduated with her Masters in Education from Abilene Christian College and taught in Abilene and Roswell. She later moved to Brownfield were she taught for the Brownfield Independent School District for over 30 years. Weedon was a faithful member of the Brownfield Church of Christ. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons; Bill Hays of Farmington, NM, Kelley Hays and wife Leigh of McKinney; granddaughter, Emily Hays and grandson, Joshua Hays. Read moreBetty McCalib of Eunice, New Mexico formerly of Brownfield, Texas passed away August 4, 2020 with loved ones by her side as well as the ladies who had taken such excellent care of her the last few months of her life. She loved to visit with people and kept her memory until the very last week. In her 91 years she had a lot of stories to tell. Betty loved to play bingo and quarter machines and would go regularly to play until her body wouldn’t let her anymore. She married J.E. McCalib Jr. in March 1948 and spent 43 years together until his passing in June of 1991. Betty worked for the ASCS office for 12 years, and McCalib services for 25 years. Betty is survived by her daughter, Barbara Winters, sister Vera Betties both of Eunice, grandchildren Jackie Winters, Jerrie Rimer, Micky McCalib, Mitchell McCalib, Roy “Shorty” McCalib Jr. and Shanda Hathcock as well as numerous great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and other extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, sons Howard and Roy McCalib and grandson Jessie Winters. A viewing will be held at Griffin Funeral Home on Monday, August 10, 2020 from 10am-1pm. Burial will take place at a later date in Brownfield, Texas.

He attended Western Oklahoma State College in Altus, OK, then went onto Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, OK to earn his degree in Diesel Mechanics Technology/Technician. Dwane married Patty Mason on May 29, 1999. Together they raised three kids. Dwane enjoyed family togetherness, doing things with the grandchildren, taking care of stray pets and Daisy his miniature pony. He took great pride in his home and loved being outside. Dwane had a strong work ethic. He drilled wells for 20 years and was a mechanic. Dwane is preceded in death by his father Alton Ward and twin sisters, Susan and Shirley Ward. Dwane will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Patty Ward of Brownfield; his children, Amanda Soliz and husband Ben of Lubbock, Chad Hall of Phoenix, AZ, and Ashley Campbell of Lubbock; grandchildren, Brodey Yates, Kaden Campbell, Bronson Soliz, Mason Campbell, and Jaxen Hernandez; his mother, Lynette Ward; five siblings, James Ward and wife Barbara of Midland, Tommy Ward and wife Robie of Hollis, OK, Terry Ward and wife Donnita of Minnesota, and Amy Piercy and husband Tommy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 12 from 5 to 7pm at Brownfield Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Thursday, August 13 at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Terry County Memorial Cemetery.
