Texas Comptroller Glen Hegar came out this past week to discuss the state’s budget shortfall. On Monday, Hegar sent a letter to state leadership about the 2021fiscal budget ending in a shortfall of $4.58 billion after the Certification Revenue Estimate (CRE) was revised. According to Hegar the shortfall is attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic and recent volatility in oil prices and is a decrease from the $2.89 billion positive year-end balance originally projected in October 2019.

Read moreAt approximately 12:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Brownfield Fire & Rescue was called to respond to an overturned semi-truck. The accident happened about two miles south of Brownfield on US 62/385. According to TX DPS the driver of the truck, Enrique Aguilar (61) of El Paso, was driving southbound with an empty dump trailer and began to hydroplane from the recent rain, which caused the trailer to jackknife and forced the semi to the median where it would then overturn on the driver side and slide into the northbound lanes completely blocking highway.
