Autumn is finally here and so is harvest season. Of course, the grapes and watermelons have already been harvested, but we are about to be in full swing of cotton and peanut harvest, and the occasional hemp.

Read moreThe COVID-19 pandemic has helped drive the Texas and U.S. economy into a recession, at least some would say. The U.S. unemployment rate has not gone down as quickly as Texas’ while it sits at 8.4%. In Texas, the unemployment rate now sits at 6.8% which is nearly double from the beginning of the year. According to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) nearly 3.5 million people have filed for unemployment since mid-March when the coronavirus really hit the state. In the week ending September 12, there were a total of 49,644 Texans who filed applications for unemployment benefits.

Read moreIn a month and 11 days as a new team in USSSA slow pitch softball, Brownfield’s Texas Renegades won their first tournament, the 2020 Fall Mex Tex Tournament at the Bill Williams Sports Complex in Midland. The three day tournament saw the Texas Renegades finish with a 5-1 record in double elimination play with their only loss coming from the Texas Heat when both teams were undefeated at 3-0. The Heat defeated the Renegades 23-20 in the first meeting between the two.
