I had the, I want to use the word privilege but will instead say opportunity, to make the six hour trip to Pecos and back to watch the Brownfield Lady Cubs open Bi-District against Anthony. The game went as planned for the most part with the Lady Cubs earning a much deserved win and reaching the Area Round, but what was not planned was the scoring margin difference between the two teams. The Lady Cubs won 108-16, a 92 point deficit between the two playoff teams. On the three hour drive back home, it hit me that the University Interscholastic League really doesn’t award the teams that win a district championship and the district runner ups. Besides getting an award and the right to call yourself the district champion there is nothing else for winning your district. That is where the UIL needs to change its playoffs format for all playoffs bound sports and award teams for winning the district and getting a runner up spot.

As the meeting was being adjourned the judge somewhat jokingly said, “we need more money.”
Read moreThe Texas unemployment rate is down to new lows! “The Lone Star State continues to set new records for Texans in employment, with January’s total surpassing the record set in December,” said Texas Workforce Commission(TWC) Chairman Bryan Daniel. “Texas has added nearly 700,000 jobs since January 2021 and, while we can’t predict the future, job activity and hiring efforts by Texas employers continues to grow.” In January, Trade, Transportation, and Utilities gained 12,000 jobs over the month. Leisure and Hospitality added 5,700 positions. Also of note, information employment grew by 3,300 jobs. Signifying that businesses are growing and more people are able to earn a living and provide for themselves and their families. When more people work it also means more is getting done that benefits our Texas community. The economy and markets are always unpredictable but it is undoubtedly positive when more Texans are able to work.
