Brownfield ISD has seen great success with its FFA program. “We have doubled in numbers this year. At this time last year we had just over 100 student members in FFA. This year we have 224 student members,” said a Brownfield ISD FFA teacher. Students enrolled in the FFA program can compete in leadership development events(LDE’s). Those events “focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, interviewing, communication, and their knowledge of agriculture.” Many students received awards for LDE’s at the FFA banquet. Along with LDE’s the Brownfield FFA had a very successful stock show. In market pigs Brownfield FFA won either Breed/Reserve Breed in 5 out of 8 breeds. In market lambs Brownfield won and reserved two breeds. Students work extremely hard everyday feeding and training their show projects. Brownfield FFA members could also compete in career development events (CDE’s). CDE’s focus is on everything from communications to AG mechanics, from livestock to cotton. The FFA banquet was a big success. Many students were awarded. For the full list of award winners and pictures please visit Brownfieldonline.com.
