Despite a recent price drop, higher gas prices continue to impact businesses and individuals all over the country. A Brownfield local explained, “gas prices affect everything.” He meant that the rising cost of gas by extension raises the cost of other goods and services. For example, he said shipping costs have risen tremendously. His company’s shipper showed him the cost of shipping the same item today in comparison to last year. The price difference was staggering, he explained. But he said “ship it anyway.” He had no choice, he explained. He added, “if it keeps going like this it doesn’t matter how much you’ve saved, it’s going to affect everyone.”

Coach Eric Morin, a US Army Veteran, talked to The Brownfield News about what Memorial Day means to him. "To me, Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made for this country." Businesses closing on Monday include all banks and lending institutions, all federal offices, including the U.S. Post Office, and FSA, all state, county and city government offices, Kendrick Memorial Library and the Brownfield News.
