Read moreThe border issues are beginning to endanger this region of West Texas. Over the weekend Brownfield police made a traffic stop and discovered human trafficking. The incident occured on the 300 block of Tahoka Highway. The driver had come from El Paso and was attempting to smuggle migrants to Dallas, but they were stopped in Brownfield. The driver was arrested and charged with “smuggling of persons.” In an exclusive interview with Brownfield News and Brownfield Online regarding the border situation, and the human smuggling arrest over the weekend, Brownfield Police Chief Tony Serbantez said, “probably there will be more to come, and not just for us, for the sheriff’s office, and for DPS.” He added, “the concern is going to be we don’t know these people. What criminal activity might come from this or… how it’s going to affect us economically in our area?” He was concerned about public safety. Read moreOne Brownfield family got a rude surprise on Monday. A one car car crash left a massive hole in a brick wall and one of the home’s bedrooms was destroyed. The homeowner was shocked to find an entire car crashed into her home on Monday afternoon. A reckless juvenile driver was speeding down S Lane, lost control, rode over a curb and then smashed his vehicle through the wall and into a home. That’s according to police officers at the scene. The home Is located at 713 S Lane in Brownfield. A neighbor says she heard the loud crashing noise and looked around. She noticed a young male who appeared to be about 18 years old. He then asked to borrow her phone. Afterwards, he left the scene. Then the neighbor noticed the large hole in the residence and the white Jeep inside. She then called for help. Police, fire, EMS, electric teams and a wrecker arrived on scene. The firefighters put out the fire that had started in the home from the crash. The electrical team shut off the power to the house. The juvenile’s mother then arrived on the scene and advised that her son was on his way back. Her son arrived and explained that he was the only one in the vehicle. He was detained. The medics checked him and no transport was needed. The home owner advised that no one was in the home when the incident occured and that all of her kids were safe.
