A Cornhole Tournament is coming to Brownfield for ages 16 and up. Our Promise Youth Academy is bringing a 2 on 2 Cornhole Tournament this Saturday, August 6th at 301 E Broadway. Doors will open at 2:00 and then bags will fly at 3:00 walk-ins are welcomed until 2:15. There will be an entry fee of $50 per team and 1st place will win $350 and 2nd place will win $150. Make sure to come out and have fun! It will be a nice hot day so make sure to stay hydrated and safe!

The price of a gallon of gas has dropped 15.7 cents per gallon in Texas in the last week according to The National Survey site, GasBuddy. You would expect a positive reply from the majority of people but there are still some that don’t find the recent gas drop to be what they need. Some people told The Brownfield News they expect gas prices to go back up again.

The Brownfield News had a conversation with the local dog shelter here in Brownfield about the issue. Julie Funtenatto with the local dog shelter tells The News, “ The dog problem here in Brownfield is really bad. It is getting a whole lot better but the biggest problem right now is the owner ‘s surrender (relinquishing ownership of the pet to a shelter or rescue) . The reason why it’s such a big problem is not getting your dogs neutered and even with just that we can cut the stray problem almost by half but this is the time of the year where people are getting rid of their grown up dog because they want a younger dog”.
