Meadow Graduation

Meadow graduates were honored Monday evening with a pre-graduation parade followed by the official graduation ceremony. The Meadow Class of 2020 was led by Valedictorian Zoey Hunt and Salutatorian Lexi Humphrey. MHS faculty as well as the families of each graduate were able to make it a special night for the graduating class despite the struggles faced this year.

BRMC Renovations 30 Days Behind Amid COVID

Brownfield Regional Medical Center Board of Directors voted unanimously in June 2018 to renovate the new portion of the hospital building. After the planning stages BRMC was finally able to begin the renovations in late November 2019.

ATV Accident Sends One to ICU

At approximately 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, BRMC EMS and Brownfield Fire & Rescue were called out to 2565 East US 380 to an accident involving a 4-wheeler. According to Terry County Sheriff’s Deputies, Jacob Loewen, 38, was traveling south down his driveway when he hit a bump and lost control of the 4-wheeler, which resulted in it rolling on top of him. EMS was able to stabilize the victim until Aerocare arrived. Loewen was then flown to UMC where he is listed in critical condition in Surgical ICU. Loewen was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

BHS Graduates Ready To Walk Stage

Brownfield High School’s graduation will be held at Cub Stadium, weather permitting, on Friday, June 5. This year since things are a little different, each BISD graduate is allowed only six seats at the graduation ceremony who must all sit in the same section. Only the actual graduate and BISD personnel will be allowed on the field before, during, and after graduation. The entire ceremony will be live streamed on a link that will be provided free of charge. Graduation is set to begin at 8 p.m. The class valedictorian is Mattie Saldana. Class salutatorian is Tiffany Terry.

COVID-19 Virus Looks To Be Stabilizing

Texas continues to open as other states are in the first stages of reopening. Texas Governor Greg Abbott began to open Texas back up at the beginning of May, and although unemployment still sits at 12.7%, the state is making waves in getting the economy back up and running. With people getting back to work and traveling, oil prices are creeping up again trading at $36 to $40 a barrel.
