Lode & Anderson Wedding Announcement

Peter and Liz Anderson of Brownfield and Theresa and Jay Lode of Prescott, AZ announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their children Hannah Joy Anderson and Daniel Aaron Lode. Hannah is a 2007 graduate of BHS, Lubbock Christian University, and the Denver Art Institute. She is employed by Montana Silversmiths as a graphic designer. Daniel is a telecommunications contractor and manages a home repair business. The couple will marry August 1 in Butte, Montana and will make their home in Billings, Montana.

Brownfield City Council Discusses Possible Budget Cuts

The Brownfield City Council met on Tuesday for a budget workshop session. This was the first of about four or five they will have as they get ready to set the budget in September. There was much talk about some budget cuts and savings throughout the hour long meeting and not eliminating any positions. City Manager Jeff Davis said, “This is the first of many budget sessions we’ll have. This meeting was mainly preliminary discussions, kinda where we would like to go with the budget.” There will be at least one more session in July and two more in August, the first one in August will include each department head meeting with the council to discuss capital expenses.

Extreme drought could be possible for Terry County

Terry County needs a good rain soon if the cotton crop is going to survive. According to the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI), Terry County is sitting at a 487.98. That’s just a little over 12 points before the index shows Terry County in a severe drought. Unlike the KBDI, The United States Drought Monitor already has half of Terry County in a “D2” drought classification or severe drought. Terry County has received 3.17 inches of rain to date, 4.23 inches below average as of the end of June if it does not rain, and the future forecast is grim.

C.R. “Dick” Willey

Our Daddy and Grandad, C.R ‘Dick’ Willey passed from this life early in the morning on June 9, 2020, in Brownfield, Texas. He was born July 13 1930, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Ruth and Roscoe Willey. He married the love of his life, Janette Higgins, in Tulsa, Oklahoma on December 28, 1950. They had four children, Janey , Susey, Richard, and Jon. He was a veteran of the United States Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean War. He was a member of the Counter Intelligence Core. He and his family moved to Brownfield in 1966, where he retired from oil field work and opened Willey’s Resale second hand store on the square. Dick and Janette loved nature and they traveled often to bird watch and enjoy the beauty of creation. Their favorite spot was Llano River State Park near Junction. One of his proudest accomplishments was his work with SPARC (South Plains AIDS Resource Center) in the 90s, he was in charge of the food pantry as well as many other aspects of the center. We will miss his humor, his stories, his singing, his kindness and compassion for others and his love for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son Jon, his brother Jim and 2 sons-in-law Haskell Robertson and Jackie Roberts. He is survived by his brother Bill Willey of Lexington, Virginia, two daughters Janey Roberts and Susan Robertson of Brownfield his son Richard and spouse Johnny Durham of Lubbock. 5 grandchildren Sean Roberts, Scott Roberts(Misty) Tracy Seaton(Shan) Sheri Robertson(James) and Daniel Caudillo.Thirteen great grandchildren Jaci and Swayde Roberts, Samuel, Sterling, and Elizabeth Roberts, Cash Patten, David Newsom, Sara Robertson, Diana Seaton, Jonathan and Lillian Herring, Emily and Thomas Nix, and one great great granddaughter Autumn Whitehead. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Friends Of Brownfield Animal Shelter. We would like to thank the staff of BRCC for the wonderful love and care they gave to our parents. Thank you to Kathey, Christine and Norma from Legacy Of Love Hospice and to Kim Franke and Dr. Hord. Thank you most of all to his granddaughter, his Angel, Tracy. There will be no services per his request. His ashes will be spread at Llano River State Park along with those of his wife and son’s by the family at a later date. Cubs Head Basketball Coach Retiring

On Thursday Steve Rhodes, Brownfield boys varsity head basketball coach,announced he would be retiring after a 32 year coaching career. Rhodes came to Brownfield in 2016 replacing Coach Dustin Faught who left for San Angelo Central.
