On Wednesday, at approximately 4 p.m. Brownfield Fire & Rescue was called out to a two vehicle accident three miles south of Brownfield on FM 403. Bobbie Horn (72) driving a gray/silver 2004 Chevy pick-up failed to yield the right of way as she approached FM 403 from her private drive. She hit the driver side portion of a white 2010 Jeep Commander driven by Shantell Moreno (33) who was heading south on FM 403. Following the collision Horn’s Chevy would come to a stop on the west side shoulder of FM 403. Moreno’s Jeep would come to stop about 70 yards from the initial collision on the west side shoulder of FM 403. Terry County Sheriff’s Dept., BRMC EMS, Brownfield Fire & Rescue and TX DPS responded to the scene. There were no injuries.

Fourth Of July Weekend Busy For First Responders

Brownfield and Terry County law enforcement and first responders were busy over the July 4 holiday weekend. The Brownfield Police Dept. dispatch and the Terry County dispatch received a combined 21 emergency calls which included 17 fires and four car accidents.

51st Firecracker Run Kicks Off With A Blast

The COVID-19 virus pandemic did not stop the longest running race in Texas, which took place Saturday July 4. The West Texas Running Club was not quite sure if they were going to get to run the long time event. However, on Friday Brownfield Mayor Geronimo Gonzales gave them the go ahead. The 51st annual Firecracker Run took place with 105 entries and nine local runners.

Early Voting Continues For Primary Run-Offs

Early voting will continue through Friday for the Democratic and Republican primary run-off election. Wednesday July, 8 through Friday July, 10 and will take place at the Terry County Annex at 507-A West Main from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Typically runoff elections are only one week, but early voting has been extended an additional week by Governor Abbott.

Rainfall welcomed, future looks bleak and hot

Some much needed and welcomed rainfall rolled in on Sunday night bringing some relief to area farmers. According to the South Plains Underground Water Conservation District the City of Brownfield received .22” of rain and the West Texas Mesonet rainfall station reported .14”. The typical average rainfall by the end of June is around 6.50 inches, Terry County is far behind the average sitting at 3.87 inches of rainfall.
