Four Lady Cubs to play in first 806HSSC All-Star Game

This Sunday, 806 High School Sports Connection will host its All-Star game at Lubbock Cooper High with the boys’ game set to tip-off at 3 p.m. and the girls 30 minutes after. Originally, Jason Pearson had planned to start this annual event last year but unfortunately, COVID changed those plans, making this the first-ever 806HSSC sponsored All-Star game. Pearson was determined to have his All-Star game this year and explained why he wanted to host one.

Funeral service for Imelda Cavazos, 79, of Meadow will be 10:00 am Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Meadow Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Brownfield Funeral Home. Imelda was born September 16,1941 in Reynosa Tamp. to Fidel and Maria Luisa. She married Francisco Cavazos February 14,1960 in Weslaco. Imelda is survived by 5 children, Ray Cavazos and Sharon Parks of Meadow, Sylvia Duran and husband Celso of Brownfield, Richard Cavazos and wife Bea of Meadow, Dianna Cavazos of Meadow and Robert and wife Jessika of Brownfield; 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren 3 surviving sisters and 1 surviving brother. She is preceded in death by her late husband Francisco Cavazos, her parents Fidel and Maria Luisa, 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Tim Hales

On June 15, 2021, Tim Hales took his first step into the Kingdom of Heaven. Services will be Friday, June 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Brownfield, TX with Pastor Eric Martinez officiating. Burial will be in Brownfield Cemetery at the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home. There will be a family visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Brownfield Funeral Home. Tim was born August 14, 1947 in Coolidge, AZ to Billy and Mabel Hales. Tim married Freda Price on April 10, 1999 in Brownfield, TX. Tim began working at a very young age and had a successful career in the oil field for over 30 years. His favorite hobby was fishing and spending time with his family and most importantly, his grandchildren. Tim is preceded in death by his parents, late wife, Shirley, one brother, four sisters, and a stepson. Tim is survived by his wife, Freda of Brownfield, his two daughters, Melissa Hope and husband Jimmy of Brownfield, Angela Perez and husband Pete of Brownfield, and his son Chris Moore and wife Angie of Lubbock, eleven grandchildren, Josh Hope and wife Andrea of Lubbock, TX, Brittney Jimenez and husband Michael, Jr of Brownfield, Kortney Valdez and husband Rocky of Lubbock, Aaron Moore and wife Anna of Brownfield, Tessa Howard and husband Dillon of Brownfield, Kaylee Hales and husband Angel of Brownfield, AmBree Moore of Lubbock, Jarred and Josh Gibson of Lubbock, Katie and Brian Benavidez of Brownfield, and ten great-grandchildren. There are six surviving brothers, and they are Utah of Rockdale, Buck of Brownfield, Tex of Brownfield, Marty and wife Barbara of Brownfield, Brazle and wife Sherry of Havana, AR, and Clifford and wife, Pat, of Plainview, AR. The one surviving sister is Anita Powell of Brownfield.

Brownfield CUBS hosts 7 on 7

The Brownfield football team hosted 7 on 7 and linebackers challenge against Tahoka and Lamesa. The Cubs 7 on 7 varsity squad opened against Lamesa in two 20 minute halves with a running clock. The Cubs went into the half trailing 14-0 and could not find a way for a comeback win falling 20-14. In the final game of the evening, Brownfield faced Tahoka. The Cubs went into the half with a 16-8 lead and extended their lead into a 30-8 win. The lineman challenge saw the Cubs participate in three challenges in the field house. The three events were the 200-pound farmers carry, the skill challenge, and one on one. The Cubs took first place with Lamesa coming in second and Tahoka in third. The Cubs will continue participating in 7 on 7 on Monday at 6 p.m. at Tahoka High.
