Read moreRemember to set your clocks forward! Daylight savings starts this Sunday March 13th, causing us all to lose an hour of sleep. Daylight savings time will end on November 6th at 2 a.m. This practice was originally started during WW1 to save energy. According to recent studies done by the Department of Transportation daylight savings time does in fact save energy. The idea is that we are making better use of daylight by adjusting our clocks to account for the extra sunlight in the summer evenings, and when we make better use of daylight we use less electricity to light our homes in the morning and evenings. Read moreOn Wednesday March, 9th at 10am a group of six students ranging from the fourth to the seventh grade gathered to compete in the district spelling bee. The students were the top three qualifiers from their campus, either Oak Grove Elementary or Brownfield middle school. When the kids walked into the room they were thrilled and surprised to see that on each of their seats was a full sized chocolate bar. The chocolate seemed to replace some of the student’s nerves with delight. One student showed his arms stretched far apart and said, “this is how terrified I am right now.” The other students nodded their heads in agreement.
