Terry County Commissioners hold brief meeting on Monday

The Terry County Board of Commissioners met Monday to discuss a few topics on the agenda. The Commissioners began with the invocation and pledges before going on to the first item on the agenda. The first item on the agenda was reviewing and considering the minutes from the previous meeting.

The Brownfield Chamber of Commerce held its annual Keep the Cheer Here event Thursday evening. Keep the Cheer Here helps promote local businesses by opening their doors later than their usual closing time to offer customers a chance to shop at their stores after hours. Several people flooded local businesses to shop and also to be entered into the raffle following the conclusion of Keep the Cheer Here.

Brownfield Chamber Home for the Holidays Home Tour & Downtown Reindeer Run recap

While several teams were playing, warming up or preparing for the Hoopin’ Cubs tournament, the Sunray Lady Cats were helping the Terry County community by volunteering with Pak Pals to make sure that none of Terry County’s kids have to go hungry over the weekends. The Lady Cats split into two groups, where one group packed the bags and the other group sorted the bags to where they were supposed to go. Head Coach Steven Wilson said they were grateful they were able to give back to a community outside of their own.

The Brownfield Animal Shelter is currently accepting donations and is in need of the following: Adult dog food, puppy food, cleaning supplies and leashes. Donations can be dropped off at the Police Station or Terry County Vet. Check out the animals available for adoption by calling the PD and setting up an appointment.

Brownfield Chamber Home for the Holidays Home Tour & Downtown Reindeer Run recap

It’s been a much-anticipated event since the completion of the new gym at Brownfield High School. Now in the rearview we look back at the 2023 Hoopin’ Cub Classic. Over three days there were a total of 22 games played in ‘The Pit’ which saw the Brownfield Lady Cubs and Runnin’ Cubs play 4 games each. For the Lady Cubs they took on Idalou, Coahoma, Sunray, and Abernathy unfortunately dropping all four games. The Runnin’ Cubs had some better fortune over the weekend taking on Coahoma, Lorenzo, Estacado, and Monterey’s JV team where they won 3 out of the 4 games, their only loss coming to the #14 Estacado Matadors. On the girl’s side of the tournament there were two teams that left the weekend unbeaten those two teams being Abernathy, and Idalou. On the boys side Estacado came into the tournament and left unbeaten as well. At the conclusion of the tournament an All-Tournament team was announced.
