Brownfield Red Skirts - Women’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce. Red Skirts is a women’s organization whose goal is to support the Chamber of Commerce. We promote women in business as well as our local communities through volunteer work and scholarship awards. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at noon at the Chamber building. Red Skirts is a diverse group where all ages and backgrounds are welcome. Come see what we are about and join us for lunch.

Dirt work, digging, and earth moving has begun where the new Brownfield High School will be located. Local company Earth Movers is busy with excavation and preparing the ground where the new high school will be placed. It could take up to six weeks for this portion of the project to be finished.

LADY CUBS ARE AREA CHAMPS!

The Lady Cubs faced the Wall Lady Hawks in Friday night’s Area round game of the playoffs. The first quarter started off just as anticipated, full of hustle and energy. At the beginning half of the quarter, the Lady Cubs and Hawks stayed within one point of each other. The Lady Cubs took the first quarter, 17-13. The second quarter was filled with the same hustle and momentum as in the first quarter. This time, though, the Lady Hawks took the lead, 32-31. The Lady Cubs fired back in the third quarter, taking the lead back 40-35. The fourth quarter was both stressful and exciting for fans, as the Lady Cubs and Lady Hawks battled towards the finish. Ultimately, the Lady Cubs took the Area championship, beating the Lady Hawks 57-49. The Lady Cubs were led by Tia Johnson with 17 points. The Lady Cubs will play the Idalou Lady Cats on Tuesday, time and place to be determined.

Cubs’ win secures playoff spot

The Brownfield Cubs took on the Slaton Tigers for the third time this season for fourth place and playoff qualifying basketball game. The Cubs came out strong with Malachi Garza quickly getting a layup for two. Slaton would come back about a minute later and drop a 3 point shot. The Cubs would score seven more points with the Tigers dropping two more 3 point shots and endings the 1st quarter 9-9. The 2nd wasn’t much different for both squads as they finished the half tied up 15 a piece.
