Mildred “Joyce” Bohler

Funeral service for Mildred “Joyce” Bohler, 88, of Brownfield will be 2:00 pm Friday, June 25, 2021 at Brownfield Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ken Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Brownfield Funeral Home. She was the kind of person that if you knew her, you would never for get her. Mildred “Joyce” Bohler of Brownfield, TX left earth to embark on her heavenly journey on June 19,2021. Joyce was born on July 26,1932 in Honey Grove, TX. She was the oldest of nine children. She married Raymond Bohler on January 14, 1950 in Fannin County, TX. They had two children and made a life in the west Texas area in various towns, but spent the majority of their lives in Brownfield, TX. She and her sister Mary relocated to Lubbock in 2019 to be closer to family. Mary was dear and special to Joyce. In addition to being sisters, they were best friends. Joyce was a successful “Avon Lady” for almost forty years. In her career, she earned many prizes and trips, and could never stop selling because her “customers wouldn’t let her.” Her friends, customers, and family meant the world to her. She loved people and loved life. She enjoyed camping, fishing, cooking, sewing, crafts and gardening. She also loved makeup, shoes and jewelry, and always wore a smile. She possessed the gift of hospitality and knew how to make people feel special. She loved to spoil her five grandchildren and was so proud of each of them. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Raymond; her parents Walter Hohenberger and Gwendoline Stunkard; her brothers Joe Hohenberger and LW Hohenberger, and many more friends and family. She is survived by three sisters: Mary Edwards of Wellman, TX; Dean Cox of Brownfield TX; Ola Buchanan of McFarland,CA, three brothers: John Hohenberger of Midland, TX; Tommy Stunkard of Lubbock,TX; Jackie Hohenberger of Stanton,TN; her son Jim Bohler and wife Terri of Muleshoe, TX; her daughter Elaine Saurage and husband Jodie of Boerne, TX; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren: Heidi Bohler of Northampton, MA; Matt Bohler and wife Tina of Muleshoe,TX (Garison, Jason, Emmaline, Josslyn, Bentley); Jamie Shipp and husband Gene of Lubbock ( Abby, Jaxon); Randy Bohler of Lubbock,TX; Eli Woolls of Corpus Christi,TX; and a large and very loved extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and network of friends who she called family.

Brownfield baseball hosts district rival

The Brownfield baseball team hosted district rival Lamesa in summer league action on Tuesday, June 15. The Cubs and the Golden Tornadoes played for an hour and forty five minutes or seven innings, which ever came first. The Cubs came back to win 4-3 on a walk off single in the fifth inning.

Lady Cubs present at first All-Star game

Lubbock Cooper High’s Pirates’ gym was the site of the first annual All-Star game sponsored by 806 High School Sports Connection. The fans who attended the game enjoyed an entertaining boys’ and girls’ game. The games were played with two 20 minutes halves with a running clock that only stopped when the players shot free throws.

Terry County and Texas see drop in unemployment

The Texas Workforce Commission released unemployment numbers for May showing unemployment dropped to 6.5 percent, a 0.2 percent change from April. The data shows an increase in 34,400 nonagricultural jobs and continues the trend of seeing an increase. There were also 804,200 total jobs added since May 2020.
