The Brownfield Fire Department responded to a call about an uncontrolled fire pit at Canyon Street on Saturday, June 26 around 6 p.m. They were able to extinguish the fire before it became a problem to the houses or area.

A semi truck traveling southbound

A semi truck traveling southbound on the 62/385 lost control and crossed over the median to the northbound lanes. Brownfield Police and Fire arrived on the scene to stop traffic and allow the semi to be safely removed.

North American monsoon brings drought relief

Over the weekend, Terry County and parts of West Texas received some much-needed rain and relief from the current drought. The relief came in the form of showers from the North American monsoon, monsoon season begins on June 15 and ends September 30 according to AccuWeather.

Commissioners hold brief meeting Monday

It was an unusual meeting for the commissioners Monday. Normally, the commissioners have around 10 agenda items but in this meeting, there were only four items on the agenda. The court met and approved the minutes of the last meeting, and took the most important action of the meeting, approved paying the county bills. After paying the bills the court adjourned to reconvene at the next meeting scheduled for July 12.

Brownfield ends Frenship summer league with a split

The Brownfield Cubs basketball team finished its four week participation in the Frenship summer league with back to back games against Lubbock Cooper junior varsity and Lubbock Christian. The Cubs defeated Lubbock Cooper JV 55-49 but lost to Lubbock Christian 63-44, with both games played in the main gym in Lubbock Cooper.
