While several teams were playing, warming up or preparing for the Hoopin’ Cubs tournament, the Sunray Lady Cats were helping the Terry County community by volunteering with Pak Pals to make sure that none of Terry County’s kids have to go hungry over the weekends. The Lady Cats split into two groups, where one group packed the bags and the other group sorted the bags to where they were supposed to go. Head Coach Steven Wilson said they were grateful they were able to give back to a community outside of their own.

Read moreIt’s been a much-anticipated event since the completion of the new gym at Brownfield High School. Now in the rearview we look back at the 2023 Hoopin’ Cub Classic. Over three days there were a total of 22 games played in ‘The Pit’ which saw the Brownfield Lady Cubs and Runnin’ Cubs play 4 games each. For the Lady Cubs they took on Idalou, Coahoma, Sunray, and Abernathy unfortunately dropping all four games. The Runnin’ Cubs had some better fortune over the weekend taking on Coahoma, Lorenzo, Estacado, and Monterey’s JV team where they won 3 out of the 4 games, their only loss coming to the #14 Estacado Matadors. On the girl’s side of the tournament there were two teams that left the weekend unbeaten those two teams being Abernathy, and Idalou. On the boys side Estacado came into the tournament and left unbeaten as well. At the conclusion of the tournament an All-Tournament team was announced.
