Calvary Baptist Hosts Youth Fundraiser

Calvary Baptist Church held a youth lunch fundraiser for their church to raise funds for their student ministry Sunday. The youth members served a meal of Ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls and a dessert. The lunch was just the kickoff to the fundraising season. The student ministry has more fundraising plans in the future but is still fine-tuning the details of those events. The lunch was a perfect starting point for the fundraising season as they were able to earn around $2,000.

Valenzuela Brings Home Championship No. 8 Lady Tigers shutout Lady Cubs

The Brownfield Lady Cubs placed third at the 3A DI State Championship Final behind several top-three performances, most notably Aubree Valenzuela winning the state championship in the 181-pound weight class by a slim margin of five pounds. Shem Gurrea placed second in the 114-pound weight class, only 25 pounds behind the state champion. Zeriah Gomez finished third in the 123-pound weight class, followed by Angel Gurrea in fourth place.

Texas counties among nation’s fastest growing

Recent estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate that six of the 10 fastest-growing counties in the United States from 2022 to 2023 were in Texas. According to the Texas Tribune, Kaufman County, just east of Dallas, led the list with a 7.6% increase in new residents that brought its population to more than 185,000. Census data shows that Rockwall and Liberty counties closed out the top three, with growth rates of 6.5% and 5.7%, respectively.
