Read moreThe Meadow girl’s basketball team opened District 7-1A play this week and it didn’t go as planned. Visiting Whiteface dominated the contest en route to a 60-30 victory against the Lady Broncos on Tuesday at Meadow. K’Lynn Tarin and Ciara VillaPando each had eight points to lead Meadow (9-6 overall, 0-1 district). Hannah Blankenship scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Lady Antelopes (13-3, 1-0) with Jaedyn Rector adding 16 to the victory. Meadow opens its district road schedule at Whitharral at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Read moreIt’s been a much-anticipated event since the completion of the new gym at Brownfield High School. Now in the rearview we look back at the 2023 Hoopin’ Cub Classic. Over three days there were a total of 22 games played in ‘The Pit’ which saw the Brownfield Lady Cubs and Runnin’ Cubs play 4 games each. For the Lady Cubs they took on Idalou, Coahoma, Sunray, and Abernathy unfortunately dropping all four games. The Runnin’ Cubs had some better fortune over the weekend taking on Coahoma, Lorenzo, Estacado, and Monterey’s JV team where they won 3 out of the 4 games, their only loss coming to the #14 Estacado Matadors. On the girl’s side of the tournament there were two teams that left the weekend unbeaten those two teams being Abernathy, and Idalou. On the boys side Estacado came into the tournament and left unbeaten as well. At the conclusion of the tournament an All-Tournament team was announced.

Read moreThe Meadow girl’s basketball team used a strong fourth quarter to catch, pass and finally defeat Springlake-Earth, 53-48, in a nondistrict game Tuesday at Meadow. K’Lynn Tarin scored a game-high 32 points to lead the Lady Broncos, with Ciara Villapando adding 11 in the victory. Tatum Goodman had 18 points for Springlake-Earth, with Emma Samaron finishing with 11 in the loss. Springlake-Earth held the lead, 39-30, after three quarters, then watched Meadow dominate the final eight minutes (23-8) to earn the comeback victory.
