Read moreThis week we focus on the gridiron, football is king in Texas. All three Terry County schools would end up with new head football coaches and AD’s, so the X’s & O’s were going to be different once again for the fourth time in a row. The Cubs struggled early on in the season when they went 0-3 playing two 2A schools and one 3A school. The first loss was to Post 45-14, who were runners-up in Class 2A Div. I. Slaton would be the next to bring down Brownfield, this time by one point 13-12. Next up was Tahoka where the Bulldogs surprised the Cubs handing them a 28-24 loss. Things picked up as the Cubs traveled to Muleshoe and received their first win of the season 27- 16. The Cubs would then take on perennial powerhouse Shallowater losing 34-12.
Read moreIn an unprecedented decision, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced last Friday, April 17 that all schools in Texas will remain closed through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. This triggered the University Interscholastic League (UIL) to cancel all UIL related events from sports to academics. UIL had, at the beginning of the COVID-19 virus pandemic, postponed the rest of the boys basketball state tournament, along with all other events, in hopes that they would be able to finish at a later date.
Read moreThe Brownfield Lady Cubs took to the diamond Saturday afternoon, possibly for the last time this season. The Lady Cubs hosted Slaton in both teams’ second district game. The Lady Cubs would find themselves down pretty quick as a Tigerette would knock one over the fence for a home run, making the early score 1-0 in the first inning. The Lady Cubs would respond in the bottom of the first with a score of their own, bringing the score 1-1.
Read moreThe Brownfield Cubs tennis team traveled to San Antonio for the TTCA 3A and Under State Team Tennis Tournament on March 6 and 7. Brownfield was returning to this tournament for the second consecutive year, after finishing 9th in the state at last year’s tournament. The Cubs drew a first round matchup against a tough Kirbyville squad. Doubles jumped on the court first for the two teams and the Brownfield Lady Cubs helped secure a 4-3 for the team.
