In a special meeting, the Brownfield City Council came to the decision to not open the Family Aquatic Center this summer. City Manager Jeff Davis, Parks and Recreation Director Scott Jackson, and Water Director James Nix all recommended to the city council to not open the pool this summer and instead, work on getting it fixed for next year. The council voted to close the aquatic center, bring in engineers, and have the pool properly fixed for next year.

Read moreOn Wednesday, June 9 Brownfield basketball player Gabi Fields was awarded a plaque from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches as the Class 3A Player of the Year. Fields helped the Lady Cubs in winning the programs first outright District 3-3A championship with a 12-0 record. Her free throws at the end of the game led the Lady Cubs to a close victory over Idalou in the Area Round of playoffs. She helped the Lady Cubs in forcing overtime and defeating Fairfield in the Class 3A state championship game to secure Brownfield’s second girls’ state title.
