Read moreTerri McClanahan Meadow Volunteer Fire Department added a new fire engine to its fleet. Once the truck arrived at the station, it was parked and prepared for the traditional “push-in” ceremony. This ceremony dates to when horse-drawn steamer engines were in use. Horses will not walk backward when they are under a load, so when a new steamer was delivered to a firehouse, the assigned members would have to push it into the firehouse. This tradition is still carried on, and this is the first push-in ceremony Meadow has held. Firefighters, city officials and residents were able to participate in the push-in June 10, christening a 2000 Spartan fire engine into the fire station bay and deeming it ready for service. The fire engine actually arrived in May; however, certain items had to be added to the truck, and firefighters had several weeks of training to learn how to operate it.
