Ja’lee Carver of Amarillo was announced as the Lady Cubs’ new Head Basketball Coach Monday through the Brownfield ISD Facebook page. Carver played High School basketball for Amarillo High before moving on to the next level. Carver then played college basketball at the University of Texas at Dallas. Carver has experience as an assistant coach at Kilgore Junior College, Lubbock High, and Lubbock Estacado. According to the Brownfield ISD Facebook, “Coach Carver will bring a high level of energy and vision to continue to build the Lady Cub basketball program in Brownfield. Coach Carver has experience in player development, which will be key to growing our program. Coach Carver is a native of Amarillo and played at perennial powerhouse Amarillo High.” The current Lubbock Estacado Lady Matadors Assistant Coach will replace the Lad Cubs’ recently retired long-time coach, Michelle Wyatt.

Read moreCommissioner Miller Provides Update on HPAI Detection in Texas and Kansas Dairy Herds AUSTIN — Today, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller provided an update on the confirmed presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) found in diagnostic samples from dairy operations in Texas and Kansas. Diagnostic samples of unpasteurized milk from affected cattle collected from two dairy farms in Kansas and one in Texas were confirmed to be positive for HPAI on March 25, 2024. Another Texas dairy also confirmed the presence of HPAI through an oropharyngeal swab test. The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC), and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) are closely monitoring the situation and its impact to Texas dairies.
