Local police officer arrested; charged with tampering with evidence

Former Brownfield Police Officer Esmerelda Perla Depoyster was arrested Tuesday afternoon August 4 by the Texas Rangers. According to the arrest warrant issued by Terry County Justice of Peace Angie Garza, the offense against Depotsyer was for tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. Depoyster was held overnight in the Terry County Law Enforcement Center and has been released on $5000 bond.

BISD Trustees approve Back-To-School-Plan

In Monday’s Brownfield ISD School Board meeting, the board discussed and approved the “Back to School Plan” (BTSP) for BISD. This is not a typical item on the agenda, however with the COVID-19 virus pandemic every school in the state of Texas has to have a plan in place before students can come back to school.

BPD traffic stop leads to high speed chase

On Thursday at approximately 11:28 a.m., Brownfield Police Dept. Patrol Officer Calderon conducted a traffic stop on US 385 near the Brownfield city limits. Billy Jack Clayton, 36,of New Mexico was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze, he pulled over and gave Calderon his name and license. As Calderon returned to his patrol vehicle to check the information, Clayton fled from the traffic stop. He traveled from Terry County into Lubbock on US 62/82. The TxDPS report stated that as Clayton was driving, he was attempting to throw items out of his vehicle. While in pursuit the Brownfield PD called the Texas Department of Public Safety for assistance.

Stanley Rimer

Services for Stanley Rimer, 87, of Lubbock will be held at 10am Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Terry County Memorial Cemetery with Jody O’Bryant officiating. Stanley was born on October 21, 1932 to Charles “Owen” and Mabel Rimer in Rush Springs, OK. He enjoyed family, fishing and woodworking. Stanley married Ardeth on January, 12, 1983 in Brownfield. In his early years he worked as an oilfield pumper and later he pursued a career in truck driving. Stanley is preceded in death by his parents, Charles “Owen” and Mabel Rimer; three brothers, Bobby Gene, Arnold and Harold Wayne; sister, Pat Propps and a son, Gayland Ingram. Stanley is survived by his wife, Ardeth Rimer; son, Keith Rimer and wife Gail; two daughters, Tammy Strunk and Karen Thompson and husband Jimmy; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Dale Rimer and wife Pam, and Danny Marlin Rimer and wife Penny and numerous neices and nephews.

Charlie Wesley Webb

Private family services will be held at a later time for Charlie Wesley Webb.Charlie passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at the age of 76. Wesley was born on May 3, 1944 to Hazel Gertrude Webb and George Webb in Brownfield.He graduated from Brownfield High School and afterward he joined the United States Army and was stationed overseas in Germany from 1961 to 1964. When he came back, he settled down, and worked at Brownfield Power & Light for many years. He made many friends while working there and you could always find him sitting outside the plant chatting with someone. Wesley had a love for fishing. He visited the area lakes to catch the biggest fish you would have ever seen. He also had a joy for Bingo. He would get to the Bingo Hall hours early just to make sure nobody else got his parking place or sat at his table spot. He loved going to Montelongo’s Mexican Food Restaurant when he went to Lubbock to play Bingo. He had a passion for tinkering, whether it be with lawn mowers or cars. He would always fix anything himself. He loved to go to garage sales and steal great finds and he made sure to show you all his treasures. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, and sister. He leaves behind his beloved dog, Booger; three nieces, Patty Downey, Tammy Ratliff, and Cindi Jones; a nephew, Michael Webb; as well as many great nieces, nephews, and cousins who all loved him very much.

Betty McCalib, of Eunice, formerly of Brownfield, Texas, passed away at her home on August 4, 2020. A viewing will be held at Griffin Funeral Home in Hobbs on Monday, August 10, 2020 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. A private burial will be held after the viewing.
