Cubs defeat rival Lamesa in rematch

The last time Brownfield’s boys’ basketball team faced Lamesa, the game was in Lamesa and the Golden Tornadoes defeated the Cubs 78-69 to get back into the playoff picture. On Tuesday when the Cubs and Tornadoes came face to face it was as a matchup of Region 1, District 3-3A second and third place teams. The Cubs played their best game in defeating their rival 97-70 in a game they led from tip off to final whistle.

Lady Broncos fall on the road

The Meadow girls’ basketball team faced first place and undefeated Whiteface on Tuesday and was on a two gaming winning streak after defeating Wellman-Union 53-41 last Friday. The Lady Broncos fell to Whiteface 57-11.

The Meadow boys’ basketball team was on the road Tuesday visiting Whiteface. The Broncos where on a three game winning streak and added went on to extend their steak by defeat the Antelopes 56-51.

Lady ‘Cats drop third straight game

The Wellman Union girls’ basketball team fell to Meadow 53-41 last Friday and looked to snap its two game losing streak when it visited second place Whitharral Tuesday night. The Lady ‘Cats put up a fight but lost their third straight game falling to Whitharral 65-43. The Lady ‘Cats started the game strong leading 16-13 in the first, but struggled in the second scoring only six points and went into the half trailing 35-22. Wellman Union came out strong after the break and outscored the home team 14-7 but trailed 42-36. In the final quarter the Lady ‘Cats could not muster another run to steal a road win and lost the quarter 13-7. Wellman Union falls to 3-6 in District 7-1A, which places them in fourth place and in the final playoff spot.

Wildcats fall on the road

The Wellman Union boys’ basketball team traveled to Whitharral on Tuesday night looking to avoid a second straight loss. A slow start hurt the Wildcats as they fell to Whitharral 65-40. The Wildcats could not find their offense in the first quarter as they trailed 20-7 after the first eight minutes of play. The second quarter saw the Wildcats struggle continue as they scored only six points and went into halftime trailing 33-13. After the break the Wildcats where able to find an offensive flow and put up 18 points but allowed Whitharral to score 14. Wellman Union went into the fourth trailing 47-31. The Wildcats again struggled to score against Whitharral’s defense and lost the final quarter 18-9. Wellman Union falls to 4-3 in District 7-1A and are tied with Meadow for second place and have a chance to make the Class 1A playoffs.
