Gas prices on the rise

According to GasBuddy, Texas gas prices have risen four cents per gallon in the past week for an average of $3.19 per gallon. Gas prices are 21.2 cents a gallon higher from a month ago and 88.3 cents higher from a year ago. Gas prices in Brownfield are at the average of $3.19 per gallon, which is between the reported low of $2.39 per gallon and the high of $3.89 per gallon as of Tuesday, February 22.

Lady Cubs at Midland Tournament

The Lady Cubs team is playing in the Midland Tournament this weekend. On Thursday the Lady Cubs play Stanton at 1:00 p.m. and Crane at 3:00 p.m. On Friday they play Andrews at 11:00 a.m. and Snyder at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday the Lady Cubs play Dumas at 9:00 a.m. and Kermit at 1:00 p.m.

BROWNFIELD CUBS AT RAILYARD CLASSIC

The Brownfield Cubs Baseball team are playing in the Railyard Classic this weekend. On Thursday the Cubs are playing Levelland at Levelland at 5:30 p.m., on Friday they are playing New Home at 10:00 a.m. and Seminole at 12:30 p.m. both at Seminole. On Saturday the Cubs are playing Estacado at Lubbock at 10:00 a.m. and Shallowater at Shallowater at 3:00 p.m.

Brownfield tennis competed at Seminole tournament

The Brownfield Lady Cubs and Cubs tennis teams participated at the Seminole tournament on Friday, February 18. In single play: Blake Brisendine was a quarterfinalist and Damian Ussery was in the consolation finals. In doubles play: Jonathon Romero and Ivan Deleon were quarterfinalists, Emalee Martinez and Rylee Richolson were quarterfinalists, and Thomas Brisendine and LaVantae Richardson finished in fourth place. In mixed doubles: Kamryn Martinez and Jack Garcia were third and Dominique Ussery and Jayla Bazan were quarterfinalists. Brownfield Head Coach Rich Hammons spoke on his team’s performance at the tournament.

Cubs comeback falls short in Andrews

ANDREWS – The Brownfield Cubs basketball lost 63-53 to Kermit in the Bi-District round of Class 3A playoffs at Andrews High School. The Cubs made a run in the second half and came close to tying the game on multiple occasions, but Kermit answered each Cubs run with one of it's own. The Cubs had two players score in double figures led by senior Devin Hines with 18 points and Brandon Anthony added 11 points. Quavience Busby led the team in rebounding with 10 boards, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Kayden Moore, Hines, and Busby each had a block.

Broncos' season comes to an end

The Meadow Broncos lost in the bi-district round of playoffs Tuesday night, falling 62-26 to the Garden City Bearkats. The Broncos and Bearkats met in Lamesa on neutral grounds, and despite the hard fought effort the Broncos were unable to come away with the win after struggling early on. The loss concludes the season for the Broncos. The leading scorers for Meadow were Bryden Smith with seven points and Paul Franco with five points.
