Richard A. Borchardt

Richard A. Borchardt, 91, formerly of Plainview passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022 in Amarillo. Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 6, 2022 in the Kornerstone Chapel with Lewis D. McClain officiating. Burial will follow in the Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Richard will be available for viewing starting on Wednesday afternoon until service time so you may come and go as you, please. Richard was born on September 29, 1930 in Harlingen, Texas. He grew up in Hale Center and attended schools there. He entered the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. After his service to his country, he returned home and farmed with his father. Richard married Neva Dean McClain on August 1, 1954 in Plainview. He later went to work for Energas (Atmos Energy) for 29 1/2 years before retiring in 1987. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cooking. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Reinhold Max Borchardt; brother, Kenneth Ray Borchardt; sister, Opal Winona Williams; and a son-in-law, Cliff Martin He is survived by his wife Neva Dean Borchardt; three children, Rodney Borchardt and wife Ella of Amarillo, Lynn Borchardt and wife Brenda of Amarillo, Annetta Borchardt Martin of Amarillo; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Three Children killed In Tragic Accident

A tragic traffic accident occured during Sunday’s rain storm, resulting in the death of three young children. A 2006 Hyundai Tiburon was traveling down US 62/385, 1.3 miles southwest of Wellman the vehicle hit standing water, started to hydroplane and spun over the center median. The vehicle then slid into the opposite lane and collided with a 2004 Toyota Sequoia. The driver of the 2006 Tiburon, a 35 year old male from Hobbs, New Mexico was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock with minor injuries. The driver of the 2004 Sequoia, a 45 year old female of Brownfield was transported to Brownfield Regional Medical Center in Brownfield. On scene, an eleven year old female, a nine year old female, and an eight year old male from Seminole were pronounced deceased. Texas DPS reports that all parties involved were wearing a seatbelt.

FIERY CRASH TAKES ONE LIFE

A fiery crash on Highway 62/82, just outside of Ropesville on Friday at 10:30 AM, claimed the life of one New Mexico man. Levelland and Lubbock emergency agencies responded to the crash. Traffic was detoured for several hours. According to Texas DPS a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck was traveling southbound on US 62 in the inside lane. A 2021 Ford Edge SUV was traveling northbound behind a 2008 Acura MDX SUV on US 62 in the inside lane. The Dodge Ram pickup left the roadway entering the center median, and then entered the inside northbound lane of US 62, traveling southbound. The 62 year old female driver of the 2008 Acura veered to the left towards the center median. A 59 year old male of Brownfield driving the 2021 Ford Edge SUV veered toward the right towards the outside lane and east shoulder. The 31 year old male driver of Brownfield driving the Dodge Ram pickup struck the 2008 Acura at the front right of the vehicle. The 59 year old male from Brownfield sustained minor damage from the debris from the collision between the Dodge Ram pickup and the 2008 Acura. The driver of the Dodge Ram was transported to the hospital by personal conveyance with minor injuries. The driver of the 2008 Acura was transported by ambulance to the hospital with minor injuries, and the passenger of the 2008 Acura was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Family Guidance and Outreach working to eliminate Terry County Child Abuse

Child abuse and neglect is a serious problem in Terry County, according to the Executive Director of Lubbock Family Guidance and Outreach, Abby Reed who was featured on Brownfield Online’s Pollock Report Podcast. She explained, the Department of State Human Services confirmed 34 victims of child abuse in Terry County in 2021, and in Lubbock County there were 970 confirmed cases. Her organization based in Lubbock is doing hard work to eliminate that problem in Terry County and surrounding areas.

PRAY FOR RAIN - Terry County received some much needed percipitation on Sunday, with Brownfield receiving 0.35 inches of rainfall. The rain storms also brought along a chance of severe weather, though no damage was reported.
